outfit: fancy floral

on saturday, i got all dolled-up for no reason in particular. we were in the middle of a four-day rainstorm and i was lounging around in my pajamas, drinking coffee and slowly mustering up the energy to get dressed for the rainy day outside. i went into the bathroom and spotted a new set of fancy false lashes (mac #6) and decided to give them a try. i’ve only ever worn individual lashes from the drug store, so seeing these big doll eyes stare back at me was inspiration enough to try out a new do, so i went for it with a silly beehive bouffant.

and in the spirit of trying new things, i pulled out this bright pea coat that i procured on etsy several weeks back in an effort to incorporate more print and color into my life. and it certainly came in handy on such a gloomy day. in fact, i’d like to think that these bright flowers inspired the clouds to part with just enough time for a quick stroll through the mountain view cemetery.

wearing: thrifted vintage silk blouse, vintage floral pea coat, family affairs frankie leather skirt, target tights, vintage mary janes from pretty penny in oakland, ca, orla kiely gold leather holly bag.

  1. I am LOVING that beehive look on you! I love how you were feeling all blah and then managed to whip up such a beautiful outfit. That blazer really is a gem- and it goes so well with your mustard tights! I love this whole look :)

  2. That is exactly what you are supposed to do on a rainy day–dress in bright colors, grab a cute umbrella, and go play! You’re inspiring me to get out before the clouds go away. Rainy days don’t come around too often here in Southern California!

  3. This is such a cute look! It makes me wish your coat wasn’t vintage. If it were still available in any store right now, I’d snatch it right up! ;) Your hair is amazing too, btw.

    1. i know! that’s the catch with vintage. i love to wear it, but sometimes i feel bad that i don’t have something to link to. you should definitely search etsy! i remember seeing similar coats when i was browsing around for this one!

  4. Um, you look wonderful as always? Like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. I haven’t worn lashes since my obsession with japanese fashion, but you do make me question a revival

  5. Digging the vibrancy. As someone who was similarly trapped indoors by the weather, I admire your coping mechanism. I can’t help but reach for the blacks and greys in my closet, with weather like we had, but seeing you all floral-ified made me want to pull out some of my more summer stuff and give it a spin in these grey months.

P.S. you look so much like the girl in the French film, Heartbeats in these photos. I think it’s the hair.
P.P.S. if you have a moment to stop by my blog I would love to hear what you think of what I’m doing :) just getting started in this crazy blog community and have always loved your work.

    Thanks!

  6. I do the same thing! I sometimes force myself to mix things up, and I must say I haven’t regretted it yet. That coat is darling, good job bringing more color in.

  7. I literally feel like dressing up everyday. But since I go to school, sometimes I feel like I’m just wasting an outfit if all I’m doing is going to class! It still doesn’t stop me though, haha. Loving the lashes! MAC has really nice falsies. I use them for special occasions all the time! Loving the bright floral peacoat. It’s definitely your style!

  8. This outfit is perfection. You always manage to put together such fun clothing combinations, plus I really think you need to rock the beehive lock more often :-) x Fran

  9. Oh my gosh, Erin, this entire look is so fucking pretty!! The coat, the skirt, your hair, your make-up! Do this again so I can take film photos of you.

I’ve been wanting to try a beehive, too…I did Heidi braids yesterday and felt so special.

  10. Oooh I love this! I’m feeling inspired to get brave and wear false lashes. My hair is about in the same stage of growing out and I think I’ll try out this ‘do for upcoming holiday dress-ups! Super cute!

  11. I love this outfit oh so much! :) The muted blue skirt with the bright yellows is such a subtle way to incorporate contrasting colors. Clever!!!!
