had another relaxed weekend spent balancing house chores with mini excursions. spent saturday tending to the apartment and trying to fancy things up a bit. we’ve lived in our little spot in oakland for almost 4 years now, which is pretty hard to imagine. when we first moved in, we didn’t do much in the way of decorating because we didn’t want to get attached to a place that might just turn out to be temporary. i guess it’s not quite such a temporary space any more, but we still struggle to really embrace it as our own, probably because it’s a rental. but recently we’ve felt the desire to see what we could make out of this space, so we’ve been tidying and rearranging and doing our best to decorate. my biggest project of the day was getting refinishing an old wood table in our living room by hand. i sweated it out, but my reward for the end of the day was a trip into the city for the refinery29 sf one year anniversary party held in the hipstamatic headquarters, which left me with some pretty serious office envy.
and on sunday, i cleaned my closet/office (yes, one room in my apartment is basically dedicated to my blog, yikes!) and can finally see the floor again under all of those piles of shoes and clothes. we still wanted to get a little bit of time outdoors, so we drove out east to walnut creek where it was actually sunny, and then made our way to the lafayette reservoir just in time to snap a few photos before watching the sun set behind the hills.

beautiful light. and I love your hairstyle. really nice.
that’s a perfect summery dress!
i’ve always wanted a huge room-sized closet (or closet/office!) and i have visions of it looking like a totally photogenic, neatly organized space… but mine would probably end up the same as yours, and take a whole day to clean up. lol.
lovely dress!

this dress is absolutely perfect!

you look absolutely amazing!
can you please show us your closet/office? I bet it’s drool-inducing.
haha, it’s actually kind of embarrassing because you will see how much crap i collect and never wear. i was just looking at all of my shoes and thinking how ridiculous it is that despite having an entire shelf full of them, i only have the same 3 pairs in rotation.
Adorable! I love the style and print of the dress. It looks so airy and cool (in both sense of the word). And I really like the fact it has pockets.
That pattern is so beautiful!
I feel the same way about my house – I’ve been so reluctant to decorate as I didn’t think we’d be here long – but it’s already coming up to 2 years! (Longer than I’ve lived anywhere for ages!)

I just ADORE that print on your dress.
this dress is so lovely. you look amazing as usual! :)
your top bun is getting fuller and fuller! can’t wait for my hair to grow out too. love the dress!
yeah, it’s crazy how long it’s gotten! i can almost pull all of my hair into the actual bun, though it’s still a bit petite, haha.
perfect dress for a hazy day…so romantic
These are so, so light and pretty.
Darling, this is perfect. Your hair is looking amazing. the dress, the shoes, the setting… *swoons*

a dress to breathe in! im starting to get back into dresses, jeans are fun but in this heat I NEEDS TO BREATHES and its so easy to make them quasi corporate no matter the pattern…unless its some kim k style dress :/
Love the dress & bag! Too perfect
What sort of coffee table? Was it a Lane, by chance? I live in a rental too, and it really is hard to commit to decorating when you are terrified of making holes in walls and chipping paint (all of which I’ve done, mostly by accident). I’d love to see pictures of your place in this space sometime. Fingers crossed.
We both cut our hairs around the same time and I am happy to see both of our do’s reaching full bun potential!
Yaaay.
Isn’t the Lafayette Reservoir beautiful? If you ever feel like a serious workout, hike the Lafayette Rim Trail that goes up into the hills around the lake. And next time you’re in Walnut Creek, check out Corners Tavern for lunch or dinner (by far the coolest new restaurant we’ve gotten in years), and OL on Giammona (off Locust) for an amazing European beer selection.
aw, you are the best! thank you for all of these recommendations! i’ve been making it a habit of going east on the weekends for warmer weather since sometimes the bay weather in summer is just a little too chilly for my taste! will definitely have to check out these spots!
I always struggle to balance housework with fun to be had on the weekends, as well. And I know exactly what you mean about the shoes and clothes covering the floor.
Love that dress!
I would die to have one room dedicated to my blog/closet world! haha

damn girl, you know how to work that top knot!
