if you follow me on instagram, you may have noticed a slight change of scenery in my last few photos. that’s because this week i’m spending spring break on the island of kauai with brendan and his family. it’s become a bit of an annual tradition for us to board a plane and spend a week exploring another island in hawaii. knowing that there’s a trip around the corner gives me something to look forward to when life is getting crazy, and thinking about this vacation has certainly helped me to get through some of the harder months this year! i also had a lot of fun preoccupying myself with picking out clothes to wear for the warm weather. you can somehow get away with wearing so many silly clothes in bright garish colors when you’re staying in a place like hawaii, so i decided to keep things super casual and slightly kitchshy. my first look is the simplest and most casual, i wore this for an easy 4-mile “hike” along maha’ulepu trail near keoneloa beach. it’s the first place we’ve explored near our hotel, and if this is any indication of what the week is going to be like, then we’re in for quite a treat!
wearing: american apparel oxford shirt, current/elliott boyfriend jeans, saltwater sandals, orla kiely bag, flora bella straw baseball cap (sorry, i can’t find a link to where you can buy it online. i got mine at bloomingdale’s.)

You’re killing me here! You should have invited me to go with you, especially if you were going to have coconuts! Beautiful captures! Love your hat too!
hehe, you’ll have to come with me on my next adventure!
Love this! That coconut looks divine!
yes, it was so delicious! it’s funny, but that was actually the first time i drank coconut juice straight from a coconut!
i’m from hawaii but have never been to kauai! isn’t that weird?

not weird at all! there are so many places in my home state that i still haven’t visited. and in hawaii, you actually have to board a plane to visit some of the islands! so far, i’m really enjoying kauai. it’s very lush and there are lots of waterfalls and hikes and things. definitely a very nature-oriented experience.
Have an amazing time!

What a beautiful place to vacation. Though California is just as nice. I like the bummer bag.
What an enchanting place!

Beautiful photos! Have a great time on your trip, Kauai is our most favorite Hawaiian island. You HAVE to go hike part of the Napali Coast. It’s the Kalaulau trail. You can get to it from Ke’e beach at the end of the highway. We did the first 2 miles easily in inappropriate clothing and gear with a 6 year old in tow. Also if you are into a more strenuous hike, there is a hidden trail at Wailua falls (to the right of the falls). It’s very clayish and muddy and steep but very worth the effort when you get to the bottom of the falls. We hiked that on a trip sans children. I have a lot of photos and such here: http://teamwiking.com/2010/06/07/hiking-na-pali/
I’m reading this from my office and i’m so envious.
Wished i was out there enjoying the sand and breeze too!
love your saltwaters. I need a new pair fo summer.
Gorgeous photos, making me wish that summer hadn’t ended here.
These photos are so beautiful! So clean and bright.
oh man! I used to live in oahu, but we visited kauai and it was my favorite island. It’s so beautiful! I really love how bright red their dirt is against the bright greens and blues. these are making me homesick!
let me know if you have any recommendations while i’m here! all suggestions welcome! i much prefer getting advice from people over looking through guide books!
