paul smith spring 2011

you may recall my series of posts from the summer dedicated to the stylings of teddy girls from the 1960s. i put together two outfits here and here, inspired by these amazing photos by ken russell. so it probably comes as no surprise that i was absolutely smitten with paul smith’s latest women’s collection with it’s separates borrowed from the boys and those perfect pompadour poufs! i also like the playful addition of a few girly prints and the amazing and unexpected color combinations. throw on those super cool cat glasses and it’s pretty much inspiration for days.
in fact, i’ve already resolved to grow the front and top of my pixie cut so that it’s long enough to do a style just like this! while i won’t be trying out all of the looks from the collection, i didn’t have a hard time picking out several favorites.

  1. I love Paul Smith collection immensely! There were so many things I want to wear here and now! All his pants were amazing! Colors, prints, belts! Absolute love!

  2. Wow, absolutely cool. I love the colors. So great to have bright colors with structured styles. I looove the shirtdress (last picture on the R)!

  3. I am loving this collection!!! Equal parts polish and quirk and the color palette is dynamic. I want to pull these looks for Fall!

  4. I love the two outfits in the middle pics especially – wow! I love menswear inspired outfits, but don't normally go for the whole girls wearing men's neckties thing (think Avril Lavigne in a tank top and tie a few years ago) but here it looks effortless and feminine somehow.

  5. I love that you posted Paul Smith, and could not agree more! He is AMAZING, and I wish his shirts weren't like $300 a piece. I'm pretty sure the only thing I can buy there is the (awesome) toothbrush that they have, haha how sad. Love the orange color in that last dress. A couple seasons back there was such a gorgeous olive hat with a feather that I wanted. It was like $400… *sigh* it's nice to dream, though.

  6. Man oh man! I really, really love the hair in this show! That's what attracted me to it when I was flipping through Style.com's coverage. Nothing says cool quite like teddy girls. The color combinations are pretty sick too! I think my hair is long enough for a pomp, I've got to try now!
