light and dark

over the past couple of months, my life has changed quite a bit.  i’m very happy and excited for all of the changes, but one thing that i’ve been sorely missing are my weekly trips to the thrift shops.  this weekend, i went to the bike expo in san francisco, and i just so happened to see a thrift store on our way home and swiftly changed course to stop in.  i was with friends, so i couldn’t stay as long as i wanted, rummaging through every single rack and shelf in the shop, but while i was there, i did manage a pretty good mini score of stuff: a beautiful brown benetton sweater, a silly vintage sweater shell with a little fur decoration, a pair of bass tassel loafers, and this beautiful silk skirt!
i wanted to wear the skirt right away, and it was the perfect opportunity to style up an outfit with this incredible sage green family affairs silk moonlight shirt that i received from the designer, nina, during a visit to her studio in new york over the summer.  i love the juxtaposition between the pale pastel and the more autumnal shades of brown and green.  and when i went up on the roof, the light blouse picked up the last of the setting sunlight as we transitioned from light to dark.

skirt: thrifted vintage silk skirt
tights: tabio patterned tights
shoes: kork ease bette wedges
bag: loft woven leather clutch

  1. Some nice finds! Change can definitely be a good thing, although it always seem to involve sacrifice. Such as weekday thrift store hunting. :(

  2. I love it! Especially the tights. It's very different from the skinny jeans thing you have been doing so often for the past couple months as well. Not that there is anything wrong with jeans, lord knows I wear them every day, it's just nice to see something completely different.

  3. Oh Erin, this outfit is just beautiful! That skirt is so pretty. What a great find for a quick thrift store trip.

  4. This is gorgeous. I love the skirt, and the colors work so well together. I haven't been able to do as much thrifting as I would like lately, either… I miss it!

  5. I cannot tell you enough how much I love this set of pictures! The light, the mood! Your outfit is too perfect, and there is something about your pose in that first picture too that I really love! So much love!

  6. A bike expo sounds so fun :) And I am dying to see the silly top you found! I love the sound of that.

Love the outfit :) I am feeling the greens right now.

  7. Wow, I am in love with this outfit. I love all of the colors, and that skirt is such a great find! It fits you perfectly!

Also, your hair is lookin good, reminds me, I need to get my re-trimmed soon : /

  8. LOVE the skirt, what an amazing find that was! That colour is one of my favourite colours on clothes at the moment… pity I don't have anything m'self. You look incredible.

  9. I really love this outfit. It is so warm feeling! I want to go outside and jump in a pile of leaves thinking about it. haha.

  10. Erin,
What a pretty outfit. Silk really is the best fabric ever. I've been addicted to the same color scheme lately–earthy tones with anything pale pink or beige. Reminds me of a ballerina dancing in a forest!
    Excellent work!

  11. The soft light in these photos adds such a nice ethereal touch to 2 obviously ethereal pieces – your skirt and blouse. So pretty!

  12. lovely lovely outfit! i totally hate that working my 9-5 means i can only thrift on saturdays- and it's always the busiest day. i sometimes daydream about calling in sick and spending the day rummaging…

  13. such a great blouse! the color really makes it. the camel is really cute too. but i think i could have gone with the sage also, something different.
