after recently going on a short weekend bike ride from pleasanton to sacramento along the river delta, i started thinking about the ideal way to set up my bike to carry the few items of food and clothing that i would need for an overnight camping trip. when i went on the bike tour along the california coast, i knew that i would need to be fully loaded with huge panniers and tons of supplies. but when you’re doing a very light trip, it’s best to keep things as small and light as possible. so i imagined up a set of smaller, more lightweight panniers and decided that a front basket would be nice for keeping a tote bag full of items for easy access: camera, ipad, snacks, a beer.
one quick internet search later and i found my ideal setup! brooks happens to make the perfect matching set of waxed canvas roll up panniers along with a classy wire basket and a tote bag that fits perfectly inside. (though i would definitely put these on my road bike rather than my cruiser so i could actually conquer the hills!) better start saving up my pennies for the next ride!

with the changing of the seasons well under way, i’ve shifted my interest in street style to ladies in cooler climates to get tips for how to start dressing warmer. with so many amazing outfits this week, it was hard to pick some favorites, but these ladies stood out from the crowd.
simply dressing
one on particular day during my trip to new york for fashion week, i was feeling a little bit less than stellar adjusting to the time change. so i fell back on this simple formula of wearing big statement sunglasses and big chunky platforms with a cute summer dress. it never fails and it’s easy enough to bring when you’re trying to pack light. although i will admit, i probably packed a little too light this time around. i didn’t even bring a jacket, and it wasn’t nearly as hot as i thought it would be!
so this is what i wore to spend my day at the ifb conference. clearly, i was experiencing the full effects of jet-lag considering that my dress was on crooked the entire day and i think my slip was bunching up in odd places. i didn’t even notice in the frenzy and excitement of seeing so many bloggers together in one room! this is also the outfit that i wore for a guest post featured on what i wore. so go check it out to see the post!
dress: i’m going to decline from stating because it ripped after the first wear!

meet me in the park
over the past couple of seasons, new york fashion week has become an increasingly popular event in the “blogosphere,” if you will. if you’re fortunate enough to wrangle yourself a ticket and a place to stay, then you can probably count on spending even more cash on attending conferences and taking expensive cab rides to various events! it’s certainly fun, but it can also be overwhelming, intimidating, and expensive! so it was quite nice that rebecca of the clothes horse got the idea to host a “renegade blogger meet up” during fashion week. true, you still had to be in new york to attend, but the idea was just to facilitate a time and space for bloggers to hang out and meet each other without all of the hype. and i must say, it was a nice break from the madness to just hang out in the grass and chat with some cool kids.
i headed out to the park with rebecca by my side and we were soon accompanied by a slew of bright young bloggers! i got to catch up with jessica of what i wore, which i try to make a tradition whenever i visit new york because she’s such a positive and inspirational blogger buddy! i also got to sit and chat with hannah and landon who were so delightfully friendly and down-to-earth that i wish i could have spent more time with them! and i met a lovely new blogger friend, emily of it girl rag doll who was sweet and pie and had the cutest new york accent! and of course, since we had a big bunch of red balloons, i had to take the opportunity to snap some silly photos with them. i only wish i had been better about snapping pictures of all of the rest of the lovely ladies who attended.
rachel antonoff spring 2011
on saturday, i was invited to attend the rachel antonoff spring 2011 presentation! i remember last season when her fall collection came out, i was instantly captivated by the nancy drew themed presentation at the lafayette house, and wished that i had been able to attend. so i was especially happy to be able to see her latest dreamland in real life! the collection was inspired by a child’s ability to transform any space into something magical, and it was presented at a private residence in the west village complete with a sleepover party upstairs, a living room fort, and s’mores in the kitchen. besides the beautiful details like heart shaped pockets and abstract bow prints, i was absolutely in love with the collaboration between rachel antonoff and bass shoes!
another lovely highlight of the event was meeting rachel antonoff herself along with julia frakes, who styled the collection. i also brought rebecca of the clothes horse (my partner in crime) along with me, and we got a chance to stop and chat with the lovely tavi, who we had first met during new york fashion week exactly one year ago. reunion times ensued and fun was had by all!
all of these photos were taken by me.
kickstart the loved one
during my trip to new york for fashion week, i had the opportunity to sit down and chat with the beautiful hannah of hannah and landon and the loved one. if you aren’t familiar with her blog and vintage shop, i highly recommend that you click the links and take a peek! she has an incredible eye for vintage as showcased in her etsy shop and in her amazing personal style. so when i discovered that she launched a kickstarter project to gather funds for a vintage inspired lingerie collection, i knew i had to share it with you!
the way it works is that individuals can donate a set amount of money towards the loved one’s financial goals. if they reach their goal by the end of the month, then they will receive the funds and have the opportunity to launch their collection. in conversation with hannah, she mentioned that if every person who viewed her kickstarter page donated only $1 each, then they would already have enough funds to start the project. so if you want to help them reach their goals, get on over to the loved one’s kickstarter project page for more details and to make a donation!
not enough motivation? just look at this cute video. i mean really, how can you resist?

and just like that, i’m back from my short trip to new york for fashion week. this time, i kinda knew that i wouldn’t be able to find the time to blog about all of the happenings while i was there, but i’m kinda glad because that means i get to hang around the house in my pajamas for the next couple of days while i catch up on blog posts and get back to normal. so today i’m sharing with you my absolute most favorite new dress from tba! it’s much more expensive than most of the dresses i wear, but i decided to treat myself to something special, even though i wasn’t sure when i would get the opportunity to wear it. then fashion week rolled around, and i realized that it’s pretty much the perfect time and place for such a pretty piece. i felt a bit like a vintage paper doll walking around in it, but i decided that my short hair and tattoos keep the look from being too saccharine.
so this is what i wore on saturday to attend the rachel antonoff presentation (don’t worry, there will be plenty of photo coverage from the amazing show tomorrow)! from there, i went on a lovely visit to the family affairs studio to play dress up and pick up some lovely new pieces along with rebecca of the clothes horse (that’s right, for the third fashion week in a row, we were joined at the hip)! and we wrapped up our day getting cozy with a nice group of bloggers at the modcloth dress up party. it was probably my favorite day out of the whole trip and i can’t wait to share the rest of it with you.

the renegade style blogger meet-up
well folks, i’m in the big apple and i’ve begun participating in the madness that is fashion week. and while my schedule is hectic (to say the least), i’m looking forward to meeting some fellow style bloggers at the renegade meet-up!
friday at noon, sheep meadow, central park.
there will be 10 red balloons and a ton of bloggers, so you should be able to spot us.
bring your own cupcake!
more details and r.s.v.p. at the facebook event page. hope to see you there!
and away i go again!
today as i write this, i am on my way to join in on the madness that is new york fashion week. this will be my third time in attendance and it promises to be the perfect way to end a lovely summer before getting back to business back at home. i’ve been having a pretty nice time enjoying the lat summer with a few short excursions such as this one. in fact, over the weekend, i went on yet another cycling/camping trip through the sacramento river delta. then i had yesterday to rest up and recharge my batteries before taking off again for new york. and so, in the middle of all the madness, i’ve been dressing pretty simply. this is the outfit that i’m wearing for my travels, and it’s a pretty basic get-up, perfect for snoozing on the plane for the next 6 hours or so.
this evening, i’ll probably be relaxing at the hotel and adjusting to the time-difference, but tomorrow i’ll be attending the ifb evolving influence conference and party. it promises to be a really great event, and i’m happy to be going for the second time in a row. if you spot me, be sure to come up and say hello! i tend to get a bit flustered and overwhelmed at large events, so i hope to see some familiar faces as well!
