in the spirit of the holidays, today i thought i’d share the latest lookbook from summerland boutique. it was shot by the talented anja verdugo featuring some of their pretty new styles. i’m pretty well smitten with those kitty prints by twenty seven names, and will definitely be taking tips from the retro hair and makeup when i’m getting ready for my next holiday party.
tis the season! though you wouldn’t know it if you were living in california! we’ve had some chilly days here and there, but just this weekend i was able to pull on one of my favorite new vintage skirts with bare legs, at least during the warm hours of the day. later on, i admit that i pulled on a pair of tights and a coat to go out, but that’s pretty much how we do it year-round here. always good to have your layers and be prepared for anything!

i’ve been using polyvore a lot lately, pulling together dream outfits that i hope to someday wear, and creating variations on outfits i’ve already worn. i’ve been neatly organizing my favorite collages into collections, and cataloging all of my favorite pieces. it’s one of those activities that feeds the part of my brain that likes to make lists and put everything into order. here are a few examples, but you can see the rest of my collages here.

i am so excited to announce that tonight i’ll be selling a small collection of vintage at the la boutique special holiday edition, co-hosted by the bold italic. the opening party is tonight, december 6, at la boutique from 6 – 8pm, but if you can’t make it, the event will be going on through saturday, december 8. i’ve curated a small collection of ’60s and ’70s styles in a range of sizes and above is just a little peek at what’s in store. in addition to my vintage pieces, there will also be a number of vendors including vintage housewares, custom denim, letterpress design, and more. a perfect little holiday shop to buy gifts for yourself and others!

on saturday, i got all dolled-up for no reason in particular. we were in the middle of a four-day rainstorm and i was lounging around in my pajamas, drinking coffee and slowly mustering up the energy to get dressed for the rainy day outside. i went into the bathroom and spotted a new set of fancy false lashes (mac #6) and decided to give them a try. i’ve only ever worn individual lashes from the drug store, so seeing these big doll eyes stare back at me was inspiration enough to try out a new do, so i went for it with a silly beehive bouffant.
and in the spirit of trying new things, i pulled out this bright pea coat that i procured on etsy several weeks back in an effort to incorporate more print and color into my life. and it certainly came in handy on such a gloomy day. in fact, i’d like to think that these bright flowers inspired the clouds to part with just enough time for a quick stroll through the mountain view cemetery.

i’m really loving the bold colors and easy simplicity of the ymc fall 2012 collection. as i sit in my apartment dreading the chilly outdoors, i can think of no better formula for dressing in the fall. i would love nothing more than to pull on warm and cozy neutrals with that bold green twiggy coat, or step into the office and remove an outer layer to reveal a bright yellow silk dress. a perfect contrast to the gloomy weather outside.

i was so eager to see my family again, that i just couldn’t wait for christmas. so we piled our stuff in the car for the long drive down to southern california on the most travelled holiday of the year. we set out after work on tuesday night and drove through the late night traffic to arrive at my grandma’s house at 5am. it was a rough drive, but it was worth it to spend time with the people i love the most.
these photos were taken in my grandparent’s back yard on saturday afternoon. we’d already had our thanksgiving feast and plenty of leftovers, but at the perez household, that’s never enough! my grandma decided to barbecue steak, chicken, and hot dogs for all of the family that had been coming and going, so i found myself lounging in the yard enjoying the southern california sun with a belly full of bbq. i have so many memories from this little yard in redlands. my great-grandparents lived in this house before my grandparents moved in, and my cousins lived next door. i will always remember running around in the yard going back and forth between the two houses and eating tangerines from the trees. it’s nice that even though so many things have changed, this small space in the world has still stayed the same.
