my love of vintage and classic pieces means that despite my decidedly working class upbringing, i’ve always been secretly in love with all things preppy. and while i’ve never stepped foot in a country club, i can’t resist a good polo shirt or a cute tennis skirt, especially with an undone edge. which is why i have fallen head-over-heels for the boast lookbook.
“created in 1973 by the greenwich, ct field club’s tennis pro, bill st. john, boast has always been the brand for those on the outside of the inside.
until now, boast was only available in country club pro shops around the country. now, all sport enthusiasts and fans of the brand are able to purchase the iconic boast polo and more at boastusa.com.”
they’re essentially a polo shirt company with a cheeky logo, but i just love the way they pulled together this shoot. the looks were inspired by the same american tennis players of the ’70s that inspired the character of richie tennenbaum in the royal tenebaums. i actually had quite a bit of fun flipping through the vintage photos on the boast facebook page featuring furry, sweat band-clad men. anyway, the lookbook photos evoke an irreverent class of jocks, lounging court-side sipping bloody mary’s over a morning game of tennis. makes me wanna pull on an aran sweater and a pair of aviators for a little match.
