mood board

Screen Shot 2012-03-10 at 12.08.47 PM

i woke up this morning at 4:45am because i wasn’t feeling well. as is my solution when this happens, i plopped myself in front of the computer to distract myself and pass the time as the sun rose up behind me. and during those wee hours of the morning, i finally did it. i fell down the rabbit hole. i started using pinterest.

i signed up for an account some months back and played around with it here and there, but for the most part had been avoiding the addiction of yet another social media platform. but after hearing so much hype, i finally decided to give it a fair chance and spent some time building up a few mood boards. a few of my favorite categories thus far are cycle chic, beret baby, cat cat cat, and plants dance.

so if you’re curious to see how i spent my morning, you can find me on pinterest right here.

so tell me, have you resisted temptation, or are you a pinterest addict? if you have an account, i’d love for you to share your link with me!

family affairs spring 2012

A9510C2-R01-007

you may remember back in september, i visited with nina of family affairs for a little studio visit seen here. it’s become a bit of a tradition every season when i’m in new york for fashion week, and it’s a nice interlude between my hectic schedule. while i was there, i got to get a sneak peek at the spring collection, and have been anticipating it ever since! i am in love with the whimsical feeling of this collection. the type of clothes you could imagine wearing on a hot summer day at the carnival with an array of fun prints like an orange zebra print, pale blue patchwork, and blue and white vertical stripes. this is definitely a beautiful collection, and i’m already planning how i’m going to wear some of the pieces. i think i’ll start by bringing the clyde dress (as seen above) with me on my trip to hawaii in a little over a week!

boutique by jaeger spring 2012

it seems there’s no end to pretty spring collections! proving that perhaps being the california girl that i am, i just love spring and summer so much more than all of those heavy layers and dark colors in the fall. so today i’d like to share another favorite from boutique by jaeger spring 2012. the collection is inspired by “a playful 1960s spirit with a clean, contemporary aesthetic,” which is definitely something i strive for in my own wardrobe. i like that the look book is a tad bit sexy with the bold red lip and sultry locks, yet still fun and playful. i will definitely be adding more than a few of these pieces to my wishlist as the weather warms up!

calivintage + public bikes video!

today i am beyond excited to finally be able to share this exciting project that i’ve been working on! it was one of those things that started off as a tiny idea several months ago… i had just met with the incredible folks at public bikes to check out their local bike shop here in san francisco. at the same time, i was chatting with my videographer buddy jon who told me that he’s always wanted to create a bike video. fast forward a few months, and here you have it. a collaboration between a very cool local business built on the idea of getting more people on bikes, a very patient videographer who sat facing backwards on an xtracycle to get some awesome footage (you may remember this behind-the-scenes photo), and a silly blogger who had the pleasure of riding around oakland and san francisco with such a cool team behind me.

if you’re curious about the particular model that i’m riding, it’s the public m8 in powder blue. she’s my trusty girl. a classic, mixte frame with an 8-speed internal hub for riding up and down those treacherous san francisco hills. if you are in the market for a bike, i highly recommend them. check out the site at public bikes or follow them on twitter and facebook!

outfit: birds and bees

calivintage: into the woods

do you ever get a new piece of clothing only to hoard it away waiting for that very special moment to wear it for the first time? i got this pretty outfit from the nadinoo fall 2011 collection months ago, and while the shirt made an appearance back in november, i just kept waiting for a frolic in the woods to wear them together as a pair! i’ve been a bit obsessed with the idea of sets. a shirt with a matching pinafore, much in the same vein as the uniforms i wore in school, or a printed top and skirt constructed of the same fabric that you can wear together or mix and match. these pretty pairings remind me of vintage patterns that my mom or grandma might have sewn when they were young. it seems so perfectly practical, but i regret that it’s something of a lost art these days.

continuing down the path of spring inspiration, today i thought i’d share the orla kiely spring 2012 campaign by venetia scott. orla kiely is another one of those brands that consistently churns out beautiful vintage-inspired collections season after season. the pieces are easy and wearable, but still have plenty of pretty details. below are some of my favorite pieces, but the collection is huge, so you’ll have to swing by the site to ooh and ahh at all of them!

peter jensen resort 2012

peter_jensen_resort_2012_20

after watching the academy awards last week, i thought it would only be fitting to share the peter jensen resort 2012 collection. why, you might ask? because the entire collection was inspired by meryl streep in the 1970s! iekeliene stange has the perfect facial expressions for this fun and theatrical shoot with it’s sparse sets and campy props. and let’s not get started about his use of color. i want it all!
