swedish hasbeens spring 2012

ss12_4

i don’t know about you, but when spring rolls around, i find it hard to resist wearing swedish hasbeens every single day. i have them in a few different styles and i always find that they seem to go with everything. so each season, i’m always excited to see what fun stuff they come out with next. and their spring 2012 collection does not disappoint. i love the super retro pin-up illustration vibes of the look book featuring a bunch of vintage babes getting fit at the gym. not to mention all of the new styles! i love that they emphasized traditional sport styles from the 1940s like saddle shoes, driving loafers, and bowling boots and i love their addition of cork wedges and beach sandals!

tba spring 2012

ss01

after yesterday’s outfit post on the beach, i’m in the mood to share a few more of my favorite spring collections! and tba spring 2012 is definitely high on the list. i am in love with the romantic, countryside vibes of the look book and am smitten with so many of the pretty pieces. i will never tire of details like sheer lace, eyelet, and crochet, and this collection has got plenty of it! factor in those really wearable silk pieces and cool collars, and i’m sold.

outfit: beach baby

calivintage: beach day

ok you guys. you’ll have to forgive me because today’s post has a few more photos than usual. but i just love the beach! a lot. these photos were taken on a little day trip to half moon bay where we spent a little while wandering along the shore on a particularly blustery afternoon. living in the bay area, i don’t need the weather to be warm to enjoy the beach, especially since even on the warmest days, the water is always a bit too chilly for swimming anyway. so no matter the weather, i’m always happy to look out into the ocean and sink my feet into the sand.

i remember when i first moved to san francisco (over 11 years ago!), i lived in a tiny apartment across the street from baker beach in the presidio. i will never forget how lovely it was to be able to wander down to the shore at any hour of the day… on late nights to frolic about with the whole beach to myself, at sunset with all of the couples bundled up under blankets, or on sunny weekend days when crowds of people filled every open space. i was always happy to just sit and watch the waves.

charlotte taylor fall 2012

charlotte taylor fall 2012

continuing down the dark/light path, a storm is brewing at the jamaica inn, the inspiration for charlotte taylor fall 2012. the collection is equal parts mysterious and whimsical with dark yet playful prints in the form of pretty florals, geometric patterns, and birds in flight! taylor wove together the story of jamaica inn written by daphne du maurier in 1939. and while i haven’t read the book, i am now dreaming of throwing on one of these beautiful silk pieces while lounging about reading it! (or perhaps i will have to watch the hitchcock filk adaptation!)

ooh, and one other delight came in the form of the elegant rosalind jana of clothes, cameras, and coffee who modeled the collection! i also highly recommend you swing by the charlotte taylor site to see the lookbook come to life in the form of animated gifs!

samantha pleet fall 2012

samantha pleet fall 2012

amidst my recent stint at fashion week to preview fall collections, and all of the new spring pieces just arriving in stores, i feel like i’ve seen so many beautiful collections that i can hardly keep up! but while i may be scrambling to see them all, i still think it’s important to pause and appreciate them, too! so today i’d like to share the samantha pleet fall 2012 collection. as you can tell by their golden halos, this collection was inspired by the work of pre-raphaelite painters.

“the house-designed prints are ominous and brilliant, and the palette has a jewel-like transparency that carries the collection from light to dark.”

i love the way she played with cut-outs and high contrast elements balanced out with luxurious fabrics for a dramatic and romantic effect. all the while keeping the collection absolutely wearable for every day.

outfit: pants dance

calivintage: pants dance

isn’t this always the way it goes? the moment the weather gets crazy nice (read: 70 degrees and up in february), i come down with a cold that just won’t quit. but when you get sick with this damn virus, there’s not much you can do but wait it out. so i’ve been making the best of it by alternating between long naps and short stints outside to enjoy the warm weather. i bought this little sailor blouse a number of weeks ago with the intent of taking it with me on my upcoming trip to hawaii, but i got lucky and had the opportunity to take it for a spin just the other day. i occasionally like to mix things up and try new silhouettes and things, so i opted to pair it with some high rise trousers that are admittedly veering into harem pants territory, but i still enjoyed the overall effect. i wasn’t intentionally doing it, but i feel like these shapes are very ’90s. perhaps something that would have been sported by courtney cox or jennifer aniston circa friends. add the trench coat for some pink panther spy action and you’ve got my outfit.

p.s. are you loving my blue steel in that first photo? not sure what was going on there… i’ll just blame the cold meds and keep on enjoying this strange february sun!

my nyfw: polyvore live video!

just wanted to share this adorable video from the polyvore live event last week. if you didn’t catch my coverage from the show, you can see my photos here. and if you somehow missed it after all of my posts (sorry, i’m excited!), then you can watch the runway show here.

outfit: sepia tones

calivintage: sepia tones

today i stayed home sick from work. it’s just a cold, but it seriously won’t quit! so i thought i might share one of my more casual and cozy looks appropriate for those days when you’re feeling just slightly under the weather, but not completely out of commission. it also happens to be the outfit i wore on the plane ride home from nyc, which is probably where i contracted this nasty little bug.

in other news, i’ve been obsessed with these sepia tones lately. these pants are pretty much the perfect color. almost the same as my favorite color in the jumbo box of crayola colors: burnt sienna. i kid you not, that was my favorite crayon as a kid.

my nyfw: jill stuart fall 2012

IMG_8664

i know that nyfw ended last week, but i still have a few posts that i’d like to share with you over the next couple of days to round out all of my coverage from the shows! so today i’d like to share some of the photos i snapped at the jill stuart fall 2012 show. her beautiful spring collection made me weak in the knees, so i had my hopes set high when the lights went out and the crowd hushed as we waited for the latest looks to walk down the runway. i have to say, i was a bit surprised to see such dark and edgy looks after so many very feminine collections, but as more looks emerged, i started to settle into the new direction. and when the final few looks with there intricate embroidery, pretty collars, and cut out details, i fell in love.

please note that these photos were taken by me and were originally posted on the modcloth blog. please only repost with proper credit!
