parker barker for lime ricki swimwear

since we’ve been on the topic of hawaii this week, today i thought it would be fitting to share with you the new parker barker for lime ricki swimwear collection. this small, vintage-inspired collection was designed by hayler parker-barker, the talented lady behind the children’s clothing line, culdesac. and this season, she’s added swimwear to her roster of design with a very charming collection of swimsuits inspired by vintage silhouettes in ’60s hollywood. i haven’t yet had a chance to go swimming on my trip, but i may just have picked out one of these suits for when i finally do hit the beach… and there may be a nice treat in store for you later this week, so stay tuned!

like what you see? limericki would like to offer you 15% off any item from the parker barker collection with code “calivintage” now through april 10!

good night, day 2013 lookbook

today i am home sick from work, and even though i told myself to stay away from the computer and get some rest, i couldn’t resist because tara-lynn sent me the images from her fall 2013 lookbook for good night, day and i had to share them! i’ve been following this talented lady since at least as long as i’ve been blogging, admiring her beautiful hand knits and inspirational images. just looking at these photos makes me feel all warm and cozy. i can’t even decide on a favorite: a luxurious hand-knit toque, or a beautiful watercolor blue sweater dress, or maybe even a cute little knitting kit to keep my fingers busy on a lazy weekend day.

mona spring 2013

i’ve got spring break on my mind, so what better time to share the mona spring 2013 collection? it was, after all,  inspired by a greek vacation from the designer moriah’s past. she recalls, “8 days on a yacht. 8 days of wind blowing in my hair and just sailing from island to island and listening to the sea. day and night.” as she conjured up these dreamy images from her own history, she imagined what someone might have worn on a boat trip in days gone by. the result is a carefree collection of clothes that you can wear while travelling to remote locales or just dreaming of them in your own backyard. each piece offers just a wink to the past, while still remaining modern. the sailor dress gets an update in florals and plaid, and there are plenty of cute collars and pretty details throughout. and all of the pieces are available for sale in her shop right now!

rachel antonoff fall 2013

every season, i always eagerly anticipate the rachel antonoff presentations. so this february, i was a little surprised that she decided not to show! but after the release of her short film for the collection directed by lena dunham, i can now see what she was up to instead. of the collection, antonoff states, “the inspiration for the collection was the concept of best friends, a time honored, strange practice that really fascinates me. i am always inspired by my best friends and it made me think about the concept at large!”  and the motif is clearly seen throughout. from the educational documentary-style film featuring the silly quirks of a set of best friends, to the lookbook modeled by the film’s stars, wearing coordinating prints and cute little heart lockets. i’m particularly loving the styling with those cute wool caps and wire frame glasses. and don’t forget to watch the film here!

marais usa spring 2013

i woke up this morning to a gloomy san francisco sky, but a quick browse through my inbox led me to the new marais usa spring 2013 lookbook, which certainly brightened my day. i asked marais girl haley boyd to tell me a bit about the shoot, “the inspiration for the campaign was a summer picnic in france – the perfect setting to feast your eyes on our spring collection. anat fritz styled the food and wardrobe, and if you look closely you will see some very unusual pairings including but not limited to squid, jello, and cupcakes from chinatown!” a decadent display, but let’s not forget the shoes! i love the playful wedges, metallic details, and fun textures in this cheerful collection.

honor fall 2013

YVL_6286.1366x2048

one show i’m still kicking myself for missing was honor fall 2013. it is easily one of my favorite collections from the shows at new york fashion week. i mean really, how can you resist that opening number? a pepto bismol pink set adorned with heart-shaped jewels? i’m already sold. the heart theme was seen throughout the collection in unexpected cutouts on pant legs and sleeves, in graphic prints and brocades, and even in those exaggerated peter pan collars. the bright acid colors and sickly sweet pinks were balanced out with black and a very intriguing shade of pale pistachio green. and even though there were lots of feminine elements, the clean lines and silhouettes kept things from being overly girlish. i’ll take it all, please!

my nyfw: visiting the modern vice factory

during my trip to new york in february, i had the opportunity to stop by the modern vice showroom for a little tour of their factory. call me a nerd if you like, but i’ve always been fascinated by the process that goes into making a garment (or in this case, a shoe). perhaps it’s all of those years watching mister roger’s neighborhood and getting a glimpse at how crayons are made. either way, it was a real treat to walk into the chelsea showroom and to be ushered in to a full-blown shoe factory behind two swinging doors. all of their shoes are hand-crafted in small batches right in this little space. though the brand is relatively new, the factory has been here for years, producing custom ice skates (as you can see pictures below) with cute etchings drawn to the leather soles. but now this space is also alive with activity as they sew up the new natalie + dylana suarez for modern vice boots, like these cute suede benni’s that they so kindly gifted me after my tour was complete!

gretchen jones fall 2013

today i thought i’d share a few of my favorite looks from the gretchen jones fall 2013 collection. inspired by poet diane di prima’s “recollections of my life as a woman: the new york years,” she continues to showcase her southwestern roots, this time with a much more urban influence. i may not describe my style as bohemian, but i love the vintage inspiration behind the easy, draped silhouettes and intricate prints, harkening back to the late sixties and early seventies. and speaking of prints, the custom textiles this season were created in collaboration with fine artists rosalyn bodycomb, creating that perfect balance between downtown sophistication and modern romanticism. beyond pushing the envelope and creating a truly unique collection, i love that gretchen jones is dedicated to ethical and eco-friendly business practices, reducing waste and producing her collections domestically. browsing through the huge collection, i can certainly see myself sporting the black and yellow geometric bodice dress above, or a certain little ascot dress below!

orla kiely spring 2013 campaign

since we’re on the topic of orla kiely, i thought i’d rewind a bit and share the spring 2013 campaign. especially since we’re quickly approaching the season in which it would be appropriate to wear these lovely pieces. the photos were shot in palm springs, a place that is always dear to my heart since i grew up not far from there. the whole place is filled with memories of day trips exploring the mountains or rummaging through vintage and antique shops with my mom. isn’t there something so dreamy about that mid-century wonderland out in the middle of nowhere? the perfect place to photograph such pretty clothes!
