last season, i fell in love with the tomboy style lookbook shot by megan mcisaac for myrtle boutique in la. so i was pretty darn excited when she sent me the photos for fall 2012. i’ve never actually been to the boutique, but i’m dying to check it out if only for that adorable little samantha pleet dress that i’ve been trying to get my hands on! you see the rest of the photos here.
sailing into the night sky
halloween came and went. for whatever reason, i didn’t feel compelled to get all dressed up in a silly costume this year, but i still always enjoy the general dark and creepy vibes associated with the holiday. i think it’s a fun ritual to celebrate the macabre as we watch the leaves fall from the trees and welcome the coming winter weather. so i created this slightly less costumey outfit to wear for an evening of night sailing and storytelling.
wayward daughter fall 2012
have you seen the new wayward daughter fall 2012 collection? the lovely cait has done it again with this darling collection of handmade pieces perfect for a girl with a weakness for peter pan collars and pinafores. when i first laid my eyes on the collection, i fell into a bit of a trance and immediately started dropping every single piece into my shopping cart… i can honestly say that i want it all! i’ve actually had the pleasure of modeling one of her spring pieces for a lookbook earlier in the year, and i was struck by the incredible quality of the garment. and you really can’t beat the feeling of owning something that has been lovingly handmade.

a.p.c. fall 2012
as a person who grew up shopping in thrift stores, i’ve always been fascinated and drawn to looks pulled from a mix of different decades. as much as i am obsessed with everything from the ’60s these days, there’s always some other element coming in from another era. perhaps it’s for this reason that i’m so drawn towards the a.p.c. fall 2012 collection. there are plenty of sweet ’60s styles, but it’s been mashed up with a healthy dose of late ’70s, early ’80s preppy vibes. i love the mix of heritage pieces and stiff tweed with more youthful ’60s silhouettes, and of course, the styling is pretty much perfect. definitely a collection i wouldn’t mind wearing all season long!
weekend adventures
after being out of town all last week, i decided to take it easy and stay close to home this weekend. but with the beautiful blue skies and crisp fall weather, i found myself dreaming of a weekend away in a rustic cabin overlooking the ocean in some secluded spot along the northern california coast. i put this little look together imagining what i might wear while sitting on my imaginary front deck sipping coffee and looking out at the misty sea before heading out for sunday brunch at the local diner.
i’ve been having a lot of fun putting outfit collages together over on my polyvore lately. i’ve been having fun finding new folks to follow for inspiration as well, so leave me a link to your profile so i can add you!
outfit inspiration
i love pulling together my weekly roundups, but the reality is that they are hardly a weekly feature these days. so i figured i’d keep the feature, but change the name. so here are the outfits that have been inspiring me lately. as always, there is a ton more on my tumblr and pinterest!

mona fall 2012
yesterday i received a very sweet email from moriah, the talented lady behind mona. and as to be expected, i fell in love as i scrolled through her latest fall 2012 collection. we’ve never met, but i just have this feeling that we would be the best of friends, frolicking around in peter pan collars and pinafores, haha! the collection was inspired by doll clothes and school uniforms, which are two things that definitely influence me when getting dressed. i’m particularly smitten with the wednesday addams-esque double collar dress and the pale yellow gingham suspender skirt!
pop up
on friday night, i hosted my first ever pop up shop at pretty penny vintage boutique in oakland, ca. the event was a huge success and i am so thankful to everyone who showed up in support and shopped both my collection and the wonderful racks of goodies at pretty penny. it was a hard decision for me to decide what to do with the massive amounts of vintage clothing that i’d been collecting over the years, especially because it’s such a personal thing. i knew i wanted them to go to good homes, and i knew that i wanted to support local business, and out of that desire, this pop up shop was born.
i tried to snap some photos of the event before i started sipping on wine, and only wish that i had gotten even more photos of all the lovely people who came in and out the doors that night. it was such a pleasant experience that i almost want to go out and source more vintage to have another event! but i won’t get ahead of myself just yet…
if you’re in the bay area and weren’t able to make it out on friday, you can still swing by the shop where many of my pieces are still up for sale (i actually brought in some more gems the next morning!)
behind the lens: gretchen jones at rand + statler
over the weekend, i was so excited to hear that gretchen jones was visiting san francisco for a trunk show at one of my favorite boutiques, rand + statler. i actually had the pleasure of meeting her a few seasons back during fashion week and was so struck by her sweet demeanor and enthusiastic attitude. it was especially fun because we had been following each other on tumblr for a while, so it was nice to get the chance to meet in person. so on saturday, i high-tailed it into the city to check out her event. i’m a huge sucker for anything silk and was particularly smitten with the bone and cream silk boxing glove dress. it’s one of those easy pieces that you can throw on with boots and a sweater for a chilly san francisco day. her pieces will be hanging out in the shop, so if you’re in the area, you should definitely stop by to check them out!
