the san francisco steven alan store opening!

last night i attended the san francisco steven alan store opening hosted by refinery 29. i can be such a recluse when it comes to attending fashion events, but i recently decided that it’s high time for me to start checking out the local fashion scene. and really, how do you say no to an invite to the steven alan store opening? i am obsessed with his designs and want to own them all, so i don’t need half an excuse to look at pretty clothes, drink fancy cocktails, and make small talk.

i have also resolved to take more photos, and thought you might like to take a peek at a few of the things that caught my eye in the new store. it was a bit too crowded for me to shop, but i have already decided that i’m going back the first chance i get to pick up my most favorite piece from the fall 2011 collection, the striped agnes dress!

mademoiselle tara fall 2011

look-book-70

while browsing the web the other day, i happened upon a stunning image from the mademoiselle tara fall 2011 collection. i had once before run across the campaign photos (which caught my eye because they used a very pretty bike as a prop), but was embarrassed to realize that i had never even heard of tara jarmon, despite the fact that she’s been designing clothes for the past 20 years and even designed a line for target’s go international collection back in 2006. she has somehow barely missed my radar until now. so perhaps it was smart that she just debuted this second collection, mademoiselle tara, for the younger (and probably less financially endowed) set. she clearly knows me well because i would wear any of these looks in a heartbeat! i’m dying over the perfect color combination in the look above (something about lavender and rust has been calling to me lately), and i’m absolutely smitten with the darling little drop waist mustard number below. and don’t irina lazareanu’s cute poses just take the cake?

nadinoo autumn/winter 2011

Look_9_1

ever since i first discovered nadinoo a couple of years back, i have been absolutely smitten with every single piece she designs! earlier this spring, i finally picked up my first couple of nadinoo pieces in the form of a lovely custom-made frock and a pretty much perfect sailor collar dress. after wearing these all spring and summer, i didn’t think i could love two dresses any more, but low and behold, nadia has outdone herself once again with the nadinoo autumn/winter 2011 collection and it’s perfect selection of beautiful vintage-inspired silhouettes and woodland prints! i know i’ve said this before, but i really mean it when i say that i could see myself spending the entire season in this collection alone.

lawrence

i was recently browsing through photos on tumblr (as i very frequently do) when i stumbled upon these wonderful fall photos from lawrence. if you aren’t familiar with the shop, it is a beautiful online vintage boutique run by francesca of the now defunct blog, the snail and the cyclops. i always loved stopping by her little space on the web to see what lovely outfits she was wearing or what new vintage treasures she’d found, so i was obviously very sad to see her say goodbye to her blog, but very happy to see her lovely new shop! the styling in these photos (shot by amy merrick) hit just the right note and made me wish i had snagged a few of the pieces before they sold out. but there is still plenty more to see in the shop!

lavenham fall 2011

DOVERCOURT DUFFLE BWB_Red_1

we may have just had a record breaking heat wave over the weekend, but just like that, the weather has cooled off again and has got me thinking about getting dressed for fall. so it was perfect timing that i received a press release announcing the lavenham fall 2011 collection! lavenham was the first brand to manufacture nylon quilted horse rugs alongside jackets and waistcoats for riders in 1969. fast forward 40 years and they have a full range of womenswear inspired by those same traditional designs that were originally created for british stable workers, but with a decidedly modern twist. i’m a sucker for anything quilted, so seeing their range of jackets, vests, and skirts fashioned from wool, mohair, and waxed canvas is quite a treat! and of course, i love the deep shades of navy, red, and green with a smattering of plaid, and little peter pan collars!

calivintage + dvf + brad goreski!

you may remember a couple of weeks ago i went on a whirlwind trip to los angeles to work on a super secret project with dvf. well, today can finally reveal what i was up to: i was invited along with three other bloggers to the diane von furstenberg store on melrose to check out the clothes and to style up a pair of shoes from their new collection with brad goreski! and i was delighted to discover that the video was featured in the dvf newsletter and is currently residing on the front page of their site! i am absolutely honored to have been asked to participate in the project and am so proud to share it with you guys today!

so here’s the rundown: we arrived bright and early in los angeles greeted by the wonderful staff offering us delicious breakfast treats and piping hot coffee before being whisked away to hair and makeup for our day of filming to begin. we each got to pick out our favorite pair of shoes and build an outfit around them with the help of celebrity stylist, brad goreski (of rachel zoe project fame, hello!). i was immediately drawn to these amazing felicity heels with their sort of boy meets girl mash-up of a menswear-inspired loafer crossed with a super tall platform heel. we worked together to create a look and then it was time for lights, camera, action! i have to admit that i’m not exactly a seasoned veteran when it comes to being filmed for video. usually i just snap a few pictures on the weekends for my blog, so it was a very new experience to be filmed while talking and moving, haha! once we were done, i got to prance around the store to ooh and ahh at all of the pretty shoes and clothes, so i snapped a few more photos to show you what it was like behind-the-scenes. and be sure to watch the rest of the videos on the dvf site right now!

marais usa

another one of my stops during nyfw in september was at the steven alan showroom to meet with catherine chen and haley boyd, the designers and creators of the shoe company, marais usa. in addition to checking out the shoes available now for fall 2011, i got the chance to take a peek at the upcoming spring 2012 collection! as excited as i am about the spring shoes, i have to wait just a little bit longer to share the photos i took. so in the meantime, i thought i would share their fall 2011 lookbook with you. the photos are so stunning! something about the grainy film quality and the casual poses just feels to intimate and personal. but art direction aside, the shoes are perfectly adorable! and when chatting with the girls, they pointed out that they keep all of their prices below $165, and in most case, under $100. win!

tocca fall 2011

33_16_Shot_033_lores

a little while back, i happened upon the new tocca fall 2011 lookbook while browsing around on tumblr. as soon as i laid my eyes on the look above, complete with a perfect vintage-inspired coat, peter pan collar, and fuzzy little cap, i fell in love. and it’s no coincidence, since the new designer at tocca is none other than emma fletcher (the former designer of the now defunct label, lyell). and this season has plenty of looks to love: from the thick wool coats to the pretty scalloped shorts, and delicate silk and lace details. and no need to wait, because the entire collection is available now online, even if you just want to take a peek!

my nyfw: alexandra grecco spring 2012 sneak peek

calivintage: alexandra grecco spring 2012 sneak peek

while visiting new york during fashion week, i went on a number of studio visits to preview new collections from some of my favorite designers. one such visit was with alexandra grecco. if you aren’t familiar with her designs, then i strongly urge you to check out her blog, and most importantly, her online shop! she hasn’t yet released the spring 2012 collection, so i can only give you a little peek at what i saw! the pieces are very whimsical, inspired by vintage ballet and brigitte bardot, and infused with playful elements such as a darling hand-painted hot air balloon print and big ruffled collars. it was quite a treat to see it up close and i can’t wait to see the full collection!
