my view at marc by marc jacobs fall 2011

marc by marc jacobs fall 2011

one of the highlights of my trip to new york was receiving my very first invitation to the marc by marc jacobs show. when i first started getting into fashion as a high school student (i’m going to date myself and tell you that was ’96 – ’00), i was immediately drawn to marc jacobs and prada. and there’s no denying jacob’s strong influence in fashion, and to this day, he is still one of my favorites, so it was an honor to be able to attend this show.

since everything happens so fast at shows, i was torn between trying to snap my own pictures and just enjoying that brief moment each look breezes by. but above are some of the shots that i did manage to snap between gasps and oohs and aahs. on the whole, this collection was definitely very wearable. i loved the little shorts suits and pretty silk dresses in stunning jewel tones and metallics balanced out by warm tones of brown, orange, and maroon. but in particular, i’ve got my eye on that stunning gazelle print! or at least i think it was a gazelle. i’ll admit that from my seat at the show, i thought they were reindeers at first. so feel free to correct me if i’m wrong!

and for the sake of sharing the complete looks, below are some shots of my favorites via style.com.

boy by band of outsiders spring 2011

on the heels of my post about the orla kiely spring 2011 collection with it’s desert theme, i thought i would share another one of my favorite spring lookbooks from boy by band of outsiders featuring kirsten dunst. the photos were shot at huntingdon botanical gardens in pasadena, ca. it’s another lovely southern california setting that’s got me feeling a bit homesick, even though i’ve been living in the bay area for the past 10 years! but photos aside, i’m also loving the actual collection and the simple styling with cool wedge sandals and round sunnies!

orla kiely spring 2011

you may have already seen these images floating around the internet, but they were just so wonderful that i had to post them! so today i am sharing my love for the orla kiely spring 2011 collection and campaign. the ads were styled by leith clark and photographed by venetia scott. the photos actually remind me of my own hometown and makes me long for a southern california desert summer. not only that, but as always, i’ve got my eye on a number of individual pieces from the collection, especially that sheer cream dress that’s already been spotted on none other than alexa chung. you’d better bet that i’m going to be religiously checking the orla kiely website waiting for that dress to go up for sale!

a visit with family affairs

as you can see, i kept pretty busy during fashion week with all of the regularly scheduled tumblr events, but i also managed to squeeze in a number of other visits with what little free time i had left. during one such break between shows, rebecca and i crossed the bridge over to brooklyn for a studio visit with the lovely nina of family affairs. this was our second visit with her, and it was a lovely break from the fashion week madness to sit down with coffee, treats, and berries to talk about fashion and preview her upcoming fall collection! i can’t show you much since it’s not quite ready for release, but i’m particularly excited about this collection and can’t wait to share more with you.

but in the meantime, i can show just a teeny tiny little sneak peak at one of the looks, as seen above on the cover of her look book, and seen below as modeled by rebecca. i tried on the same dress in another print, and i am absolutely in love with it’s versatility! can’t wait to share more, but in the meantime, be sure to check out the family affairs site!

a lauren moffatt sneak peek!

oh i just can’t help but be a bit of a tease about my recent visit to the lauren moffatt studio! rebecca of the clothes horse was kind enough to let me tag along and get a sneak peek of the upcoming fall collection while we were visiting new york for fashion week. all i can say is that i am beyond excited about the new pieces, and already have several items on my wishlist for the fall! below you can see two sneaky little shots of the pieces, gingerly hanging on the racks, just waiting to be previewed! i love the unexpected color combinations and slight 1970’s inspiration of the collection, described as “laura ingalls wilder on crack,” by lauren herself. right up my alley, haha!

but since i’ll have to wait for the fall to get my hands on these pieces, i’m keeping myself busy checking out the spring collection up for sale on the lauren moffatt site right now!

it was a group effort. half of the photos are mine, but images 2, 4, 6, and 9 were shot by rebecca.

visiting oscar de la renta

one of the highlights of my trip to new york fashion week with tumblr, was the opportunity to visit the oscar de la renta studio to preview a few pieces from his fall 2011 collection before they hit the runway. not only that, but after getting our sneak peek, we were invited to the oscar de la renta show to view the completed collection. the entire experience was incredible from start to finish, and i am so incredibly honored to have been in attendance.

jill stuart fall 2011

after writing that last outfit post about my new fox shirt from opening ceremony, i happened upon the images from the jill stuart fall 2011 collection and nearly had a heart attack. i wasn’t invited to this particular show, but let me just say that if i had been in attendance and seen these pieces in real life, i probably would have fainted at the sight of this collection. maybe that’s just the cold medicine talking, but i seriously can’t get over this beautiful, nature-inspired collection. it’s got me saving up my pennies to for a serious fashion investment.

friday favorites

ok, i’m cheating a little bit here because it’s not actually friday anymore in new york, but it’s the first time i’ve actually been able to sit down in front of a computer since yesterday with so much going on here! i will have plenty to share with you on monday, but until then, i thought you might enjoy my favorites outfits from the last week.

vanessa jackman, hel looks, louder than silence, tales of endearment, stockholmstreetstyle, and mr. newton.

yestadt millinery spring 2011

yestadt millinery spring 2011

i recently came across the yestadt millinery spring 2011 look book and instantly fell in love with their vintage-inspired collection of hats and turbans, which can easily be translated into a modern wardrobe. yestadt millinery is based out of new york and makes custom hats on both a made-to-measure and wholesale basis. while i’m having serious doubts that these will fit into my budget, i am suddenly dreaming of popping in to get my own custom turban for spring!
