lauren moffatt spring 2014

this past september, i was kinda bummed that lauren moffatt didn’t have a presentation during new york fashion week, but i still had a chance to peek at her new spring 2014 collection! this season, she was inspired by a family trip to the monterey bay aquarium and created beautiful silk prints fashioned after starfish and seahorses and pretty aquatic patterns that caught her eye. as always, her eye for color is impeccable and she’s created plenty of wearable separates to easily combine with your wardrobe. i’ve long been a fan of her classic snapback tops, so it’s fun to see her introduce so many easy and wearable tops to pair with jeans and clogs on casual days.

colenimo spring 2014 preview

i know i’ve been getting into the fall vibes lately, but there are still so many pretty spring 2014 collections rolling in that i can’t resist sharing. the other day i shared the colenimo fall collection, but today it’s all about spring 2014. this season, aya was inspired by “silent film star sisters norma, constance and natalie talmadge, a high flying trio who climbed to the very pinnacle of silent-era hollywood but never lost their sisterly camaraderie.” and of course, this dreamy editorial is the perfect way to showcase such a lovely and delicate, vintage-inspired collection. today i’m only sharing a preview, but i promise to share the full lookbook soon!

dusen dusen spring 2014

every time i visit new york, there are always a few people i regret that i couldn’t visit. this season, it was ellen of dusen dusen. i have been a fan of hers for a few seasons now, and i just love her cool, easy collections. fortunately for me, her new spring 2014 lookbook is out, so i am still able to feast my eyes on what she’s got in store. this season, she drew inspiration from kinetic art in the ’80s, of movement and the perception of movement. plenty of geometric shapes, curves, and angles adorn her cool silhouettes in bold crayon colors for a fun and playful look that’s anything by juvenile.

my nyfw: samantha pleet in her studio

on my very last morning in new york, i packed up my bags and made one last trip to visit samantha pleet in her chelsea studio. her and her husband patrick have such a knack for design that they’re pretty much surrounded by beautiful things at all times. and as you can see, their studio is no exception. filled to the brim with plants and books and remnants from their spring 2014 shoot, it’s almost like stepping into a little private paradise while getting to preview the collection and peek at her latest collaboration with wolverine 1,000 mile. samantha herself exemplifies her customer so well that i asked her if she’d model a few pieces from her new collection for me before i headed back home.

if you like what you see, samantha pleet recently launched a web shop, where you can currently pick up some of the pieces from her new fall collection!

my nyfw: family affairs spring 2014 preview

on my last full day in new york, i had the pleasure of visiting one of my favorite designers in her new williamsburg studio to take a look at the upcoming family affairs spring 2014 collection. i couldn’t play dress up myself due to my growing belly, but her very lovely intern bryson was kind enough to model a few pieces for me. it was kind of like having my own little personal preview of the collection. and the light in the studio was so beautiful that it quickly turned into a little impromptu photoshoot. this is only a little peek at the collection, with many more pieces on the way, but it’s always fun to get a little glimpse at what’s in store!

samantha pleet spring 2014

this season, samantha pleet created an amazing short film for her spring 2014 collection, and i’ve completely fallen in love. the short, titled “arcadia” was inspired by stories from darwin’s journals written during his early voyages to the uncharted islands of tiera del fuego with imagery drawn from the paintings of gauguin and rousseau. i always love the narrative behind her collections and the interesting inspiration from which she pulls her looks. and this campy film really brought the story to life. it doesn’t hurt that the collection is beautiful, especially since i am still completely obsessed with tropical vacation vibes. i want to take the entire collection with me in a giant suitcase to go on my very own expedition at sea.

film directed by sarah sophie flicker and maximilla lukacs, starring emily theobald, hannah metz, carlen altman, and andrea estella, and narrated by tennessee thomas. lookbook photos by jacqueline dimilia.

my nyfw: tocca spring 2014

the first show i attended when i arrived in new york last week was tocca spring 2014. i always look forward to emma fletcher’s whimsical designs and delicate details, and this collection was no exception. this season, she took inspiration from ballet dancers with pretty ruffled details, cute tap shorts, and a really lovely selection of high rise cigarette pants that i wish i could wear right now! there was also a beautiful range of sheer silk gowns, but i always prefer the more wearable daytime looks. in particular, i am a bit obsessed with the polka dot top and suspender skirt photographed above.

my nyfw: candela spring 2014

i know it’s the weekend, but i just couldn’t wait to share my photos from the candela spring 2014 presentation. you know i’m a huge fan of anything nautical, so my heart skipped a beat when i stepped into the room to see this elaborate set before my eyes. designer gabriella perezutti stuck with her romantic twist with plenty of lace and ruffles, but she also introduced bold color-blocked patterns fashioned after nautical flags. the stunner for me was a haunting, vintage-inspired eyelet dress fit for the figurehead of a lonely ship lost at sea.

my nyfw: honor spring 2014

yesterday marked the official first day of fashion week, and boy was it a big one! i attended a handful of shows, but if i had to pick a favorite, it would definitely be honor spring 2014. i was so bummed that i missed their show last season that i was determined to make it this time. and i am so glad that i did! last season was all about clean lines and bold colors, but this time it was all about the intricate details. it was one of those shows that gets your heart all aflutter as you see each dreamy piece float down the runway almost faster than your poor brain can even compute. it was a huge collection set against a forested wonderland with enough evening gowns to make you wish you were cinderella at the ball. believe it or not, there were more looks than i am sharing here, but i wasn’t quick enough to catch them all. in particular, i loved the slim cigarette pant suits with matching cropped jackets and the showstopper for me was a certain baby blue gown covered in fluffy thistledown puffs. swoon!

whit spring 2014

yep, fashion week has officially started and i’m already missing shows. such was the case when i arrived in nyc last night, several hours after the whit spring 2014 presentation had already ended. this was kind of a bummer because as jaded as i might sometimes get over fashion week and the fashion industry in general, i still really love clothes and i still get all anxious and excited filing into those little presentation spaces or crawling into crowded runway seating. especially when it’s a designer i really love, like whitney pozgay. she always has such a fun and carefree aesthetic that sparks my imagination. looking at this collection makes me want to go on an extravagant vacation and wear every single piece while doing totally awesome stuff like drinking silly cocktails poolside or lounging in a hammock. i love the crisp, clean lines and super touristy vibes. it reminds me that i am totally a spring/summer girl. give me easy pieces like printed dresses over layered fall looks any day.
