my nadinoo

calivintage: my nadinoo

ah! i’m feeling pretty good about monday this week because i had one of those very productive weekends! i woke up bright and early on saturday feeling motivated to do some serious spring cleaning. all day, me and the boy went through our things for a major overhaul and got rid of all the clutter that we’d somehow amassed over the past several months. our apartment isn’t huge and spacious, so we decided that we need to keep the junk to a minimum. and i have to say, i feel as though a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders now that i’ve gotten rid of all that excess.

then we went for a stroll around the neighborhood and i decided to wear my lovely nadinoo dress! i received it a few months ago when the weather was still pretty cold and rainy, so i was saving it for a nice sunny weekend afternoon! it’s custom made, similar to the fleur’s penna dress in a pale green liberty print. and what’s more, i am so excited to share that  nadinoo, has started a gallery of photos filled with pictures of lovely ladies wearing their own beautiful nadinoo creations. you can submit your look to the gallery on her facebook page, style my nadinoo. you should also take a moment to check out her site to get a peek at her new spring 2011 collection!

fruit stripe

calivintage: fruit stripe

ok, that title might be a tad bit misleading since the stripes on my dress are actually composed of rows of teeny tiny flowers, but fruit stripe just sounds better. possibly because it’s also the name of one of my favorite childhood candies. but anyway, this is the lovely boutique by jaeger dress that i bought with my sister’s upcoming outdoor wedding in mind. i was trying to keep it in the closet until the main event, but it just kept calling to me with it’s bright and playful color palette.

i thought it would be the perfect thing to wear for another sunny spring day, but don’t let the sunshine fool you. the weather in san francisco was actually a bit cold and windy today. i had an optometrist appointment this afternoon, which was about a 30 minute walk from my work. needless to say, a few passersby probably got a grand view when the wind blew up my skirt. luckily (or not), i happened to be wearing my snazzy loved one undies, so at least it made for an interesting peek!

to the maxi

calivintage: to the maxi

with the weather so lovely out, i couldn’t resist taking my new maxi dress out for a test drive. so after work, i went on a little stroll around the neighborhood with the boy to soak up the last bits of sun before it set into the sky. this is the second time i’ve tried wearing a maxi length and i have to say, it’s growing on me! there is something so nice about feeling the length of fabric swish around my legs when i walk, and it’s also quite fun to experiment with styles that are far out of my comfort zone. something about the cool, breezy cotton of this dress coupled with the pretty print was just calling to me, and i’m glad i tried it out! it’s exactly the type of dress i could see myself wearing every weekend this summer.

sailor style

calivintage: sailor style

oh hello there! on monday, i got a few comments from people asking to get a better look at my sailor trench. fortunately, with the neverending rain we’ve been having, it’s come in handy and i’ve already worn it a few times this past week. so here it is again! today i was especially pleased to be wearing it when my new (to me) vintage straw hat came in the mail. i didn’t plan it, but i feel like the hat actually completed my little sailor look! and if there’s one thing i love about dressing for the spring, it’s straw hats! last year, i wore my vintage boater hat to death, so this year i decided to upgrade to a wider brim. i like how just small changes like that seem to make things feel fresh again.

too bad the wind didn’t agree with me… looks like i’ll need to go on a little hunt for some new hat pins to keep it in place!

it’s raining it’s pouring

calivintage: it's raining it's pouring

as i mentioned in my last post, the weather here in northern california has been so rainy the past few weeks! this weekend, the forecast called for another 3 inches, so i was delighted when the sun came out for a few hours to grace us with its presence. i took the opportunity to throw on my new family affairs mini dress with my little sailor trench for some sunday afternoon shopping with the boy. we splashed in puddles and had a grand time taking silly rainy day photos on the roof top between the random showers.

then we settled back in to watch the season finale of big love, eating cheeseburgers and drinking champagne. the perfect way to finish off a lazy weekend, don’t you think?

artichoke hearts

calivintage: artichoke hearts

last week, i went on a little photo shoot for the style resolutions series on the modcloth blog. we headed out on a stormy day to try to get some shots, but unfortunately, we only got a few snaps before it started to rain. and i couldn’t remove my hand from my head for fear of losing my hat in the wind! but this was my outfit for the day. almost all vintage except for my jeffrey campbell heels and my trusty satchel. i’ve been meaning to get back to wearing more vintage lately, but with a very busy schedule, it can be hard to make it out to the thrift shops, especially because it takes a lot of digging to find just one prized possession. but i’m trying to remember to take more time to do the things i love, thrifting included!

in fact, you can read more about it on our latest modcloth post, style resolutions: round two! and a very special thank you to kristin cofer for taking these photos!

hello kitty

calivintage: kitty pin

during my trip to new york, i was hellbent on squeezing in some shopping time amidst our busy tumblr schedule. on this particular day, i convinced sara zucker to take me to the ace hotel to do a bit of shopping at opening ceremony. unfortunately, the chloe sevigny dress that i was so dead-set on getting, was no longer available in my size. boo hoo. so we browsed around and chatted with the shop boy until there was barely enough light out for a proper outfit photo! oh, the trials and tribulations of being a blogger… hah!

so here i am in front of opening ceremony in my outfit for the day. i don’t know if you can make it out in these photos, but i am wearing a silly little kitty pin with googly eyes. and i’m wearing my brand new swedish hasbeens high heeled jodhpur boots. i absolutely love them, but i guess i wasn’t paying close enough attention to the measurements, because they are too small for my feet! i ordered the euro size 38, which translates to an american size 7.5. just a half size too small for my toes! if you’re interested in buying them, shoot me an email and i will give you a deal! update: they’re sold!

purple plaid

oh hello there! by the time you’ve read this, i will be happily sitting on a plane on my way to new york for fashion week! this is the outfit i wore yesterday to work, and is probably what i will be wearing on the plane because it’s just so perfectly comfortable. except i will probably be wearing double tights, a pair of boots, and my new leopard print coat, since the forecast in new york is an unfathomable 28 degrees. the process of preparing and packing was been pretty arduous to say the least, so i hope i’ll be prepared for all of the events ahead of me.

and oh yes! i am making lots of silly faces in today’s post. my lovely friend lindsay snapped my photos during a quick break from work and she did a pretty good job of catching some candid shots of me being goofy. i think these are probably a more accurate representation of what i look like in real life. in that picture below, i think i’m dropping the f-bomb because a big bus full of people got out right in front of us. oh yeah! and i just realized that i’m debuting my latest haircut as well. i got it cut by my pal shannon dean of revamp salon and it’s getting awfully close to the old bob. i’m quite happy with the progress so far.

anyway, if you’re going to be in new york for fashion week, shoot me an e-mail or send me a little tweet so we can try to meet up! or if you’re just interested in seeing what i’m up to, be sure to follow me on twitter and tumblr to get status updates. bon voyage!

little things

calivintage: mendocino part two

today i just wanted to mention a few little changes here at calivintage. i never made an official announcement, but i’m sure most of you noticed that i changed the layout a few months back. it was the first step in the process of moving my blog from blogspot to a self-hosted wordpress site. i won’t bore you with all of the technical details, but i will say that it’s a switch that i am so happy to have finally made and i’m really enjoying getting comfortable at my new home here on the web.

what does this mean for you? you should still be getting all of my posts in your reader because my feed hasn’t changed, but calivintage now lives at it’s own domain, calivintage.com. you don’t have to update your links or bookmarks, but if you do visit the old blogspot site, you’ll reach a redirect page. it will take you to the new site, but if you want to avoid that extra step, you can change your bookmarks or links to calivintage.com. another really nice change is that i will now be able to reply to your comments directly, a feature that i have always wanted to have! yay!

and with all transitions like this, sometimes things go wrong, so please let me know if you’re having any issues viewing my blog, getting my feed, commenting on the new site, or anything else! you can leave a comment below or email me at erin@calivintage.com.
