outfit: win a leader bag co. backpack!

i have to admit it. have a love/hate relationship with diaper bags. to me, they’re a kind of necessary evil. if i try to leave the house without one, i usually end up regretting it. either because all of the baby things are scattered in the little storage bin under the stroller, or sliding around in the back seat of my car. or worse yet, i find myself stuck somewhere without extra diapers and wipes. so i know i need to bring one, but i am not super into the idea of carrying around a puffy shoulder bag with baby characters splashed across the front of it. and while i admit that the selection of diaper bags has already gotten so much better than when i had my first kid, there still aren’t many that i would hold up as very awesome. but leader bag co. is one such bag. in my very first guide to diaper bags, i held them up as the holy grail of diaper bags. and that still remains true today.

i finally got my hands on the julien leather set in ivory and tan, and it was love at first sight. the only catch is that, as some readers pointed out, the price point wasn’t super attainable. but here’s the thing: the brand really took the comments to heart and came back this year with not only a lower price point on their original leather bag, but a brand new bag: the julien canvas set, which comes in the black you see in my photos, along with a variety of other fun color combinations. i went simple with mine, but i already have my eye on the golden colorway. but enough talk, and onto the fun stuff….

we’re offering one lucky winner the chance to win any one of the leader bag co. julien canvas sets! to enter, simply visit this post on instagram!

outfit: found company + murray & finn!

it’s been a little while since i’ve had a giveaway, so i thought i’d come back with a double whammy. today i’ve partnered with two favorite shops, found company and murray & finn, to offer one winner the chance to receive $100 to each shop. which was really just another elaborate excuse for me to get dressed up in coordinating outfits with my babe!

i got the lykke wullf overalls from found company, an independent boutique based in connecticut specializing in vintage, slow fashion, and indie goods for mamas, papas, kiddos, and the home. and edie scored her misha & puff popcorn sweater from murray & finn, an online shop based in new jersey with a focus on unique clothing and toys for kids, and chic maternity wear for mamas-to-be.

outfit: the joy is in the details with cath kidston

calivintage + cath kidston

The holidays are upon us, and while I’ve resolved to hit the ground running in preparation for the season, I know it won’t do me any good if I can’t also remember to slow down and take the time to enjoy the little things. One such detail that has really been helping me to be more mindful and to stay in the present are my morning walks with Adam. Our tradition began when he was just a baby. I would wake up the in the morning, get us both dressed up for the day, and head out on a stroll to the neighborhood coffee shop. Even if there was nothing else to do for the day, it was this little routine that really helped me to feel alive and ready to tackle my day.

Fast forward a few years and my little guy is nearly 4-years-old! What was just a simple morning routine has now grown and blossomed into something even more special than I could have imagined. Adam is no longer nestled in his baby carrier, but walking right beside me. When we get to the coffee shop, he holds the door open for me, and picks out a carton of milk from the refrigerator all by himself. We walk at his pace, stopping to pick dandelions or splash in puddles. And in those moments, he teaches me so much about slowing down and looking at the world through those wide eyes of a child. All with just a simple morning walk through the neighborhood.

And this season, we’ve partnered with the iconic brand, Cath Kidston, to share all of the joy in those precious details. I was so excited when they first contacted me because I still remember the brand from when I was a kid in the ’90s! They first launched in 1993 with a small shop in West London, selling car boot finds and vintage fabrics before Cath began designing and producing her own prints and products. They have since grown into a renowned brand available across the globe. I can still remember going with my mom to the local fabric shop and falling in love with those playful, vintage-inspired prints on oil cloth and cotton. So of course, I’ve been hit with a wave of nostalgia picking out matching outfits for me and Adam, with their cheerful details and modern vintage design. And I’m so excited to continue to share even more of our favorite details from The Home of Modern Vintage throughout the holiday season!

outfit: win a jumpsuit from lindsay robinson!

calivintage x robinson jumpsuit

a couple of years ago, i found this really incredible pair of vintage coveralls. i loved them. i wore them a ton. and then, in some sort of kondo-induced blackout, i sold them. mistakes were made. i always regretted it.

fast forward a couple of years and i have finally found the perfect replacement: the beryl jumpsuit by san francisco-based designer lindsay robinson. she is a textile designer with a background in traditional dyeing and weaving, so you already know that i’m going to tell you that’s it’s made of an amazing 100% cotton washed japanese twill that you will love. these days, textiles are one of the first things i look at when picking out my clothes. i need something that is sturdy and washable, but still comfortable and easy to wear. this jumpsuit ticks all those boxes, in addition to being a great option for new moms because it’s a one piece that you can just literally throw on without another thought, and it’s got a button front so you can breastfeed on the sly. i went for the natural fabric, but it also comes in a blush pink and a stunning indigo blue. oh, and did i mention they’re made in california? interested?

we’re giving away a beryl jumpsuit to one lucky winner! simple head on over to this instagram post to enter!

outfit: esby pre-fall

calivintage - esby apparel pre-fall

despite the incredibly hot and humid weather we’ve been having lately, i’m still kind of grasping-on to these last few days of summer. luckily for me, the esby apparel pre-fall collection is helping me ease into the new season with these beautiful new clothes. the rose top and lucia seamed ankle pant was the uniform of choice for a bit of adventuring in a nearby park with my two very talented neighbors, melissa and yvette. the top is made of a beautifully textured cotton with a deep v that can be worn front or back, and the pants are a classic cotton canvas with the perfect high rise and relaxed, wide leg. they’re such classic wardrobe staples that compliment just about any wardrobe and they come in a variety of different colors to suit any taste.

in fact, we aren’t the only ones sporting this exact combination! we teamed-up with an entire crew of talented women to share a few more variations on the theme! you can hop on over to see geneva wearing the tomato top with the deep v in front. or paige, who’s styled an all camel look for her outfit.

i certainly have plans to style these in many more ways as the weather cools off, but for now, i’m just going to stare wistfully at these dreamy photos and soak up this quickly fading summer sun.

ollie ella baskets

i often say that around our house, we never seem to have enough baskets. adam goes to a montessori school, so we try to model some of that at home, which usually requires a ridiculous amount of baskets. the nice part is that all of his toys and activities look so cute all lined up on the shelves in little baskets. it’s the perfect storage solution!

this also means that i’m always picking up more and more baskets because you never know when you’ll need more! needless to say, i got pretty excited when i learned about olli ella! in particular, their new kids baskets, which are pretty much the cutest thing ever, regardless of whether or not you do the whole montessori thing. they have a cute wheeled luggy basket that comes in a number of different colors in both kids and adult sizes. then there’s the adorable piki picnic basket, which i think we might need to use as adam’s lunch box! and their latest, the minichari bag, a little handbag that doubles as a bike basket!

not only that, but they have tons of other baskets on the site, for adults and for around the home. so you really should go check it out!

outfit: simple summer

there probably aren’t too many people who will agree with me on this one, but i think the summer might be my favorite time of year. i probably complain too much about the heat, but i live for bbqs, chips and salsa, ice cream, and beer haha. i haven’t had a summer vacation in ages, but i still feel like celebrating all of the time. lately, i’m always stopping in for milkshakes at the local burger joint. and i’ve been doing a lot of weekend taco parties with a few too many margaritas. and getting dressed is so easy. you can’t really wear too much because it’s too darn hot, which is kind of liberating. i mentioned lots of white tops and blue jeans in my post yesterday– well here it is! my summer uniform. although i have to say, these intentionally blank crystal heels in blood orange are kinda stealing the show. the perfect pop of color, as they say in the fashion industry.

outfit: lo & sons

when it comes to clothes, i feel like i pretty much know my taste. i know what i like and what i don’t like, and i tend to have a pretty intentional wardrobe with clothes that are classic, versatile, and a little bit interesting. i have a formula that works for me, and i’m pretty happy with it. but when it comes to handbags, i’ve been having the hardest time figuring out what i really want. i guess that probably seems silly, but i can never seem to commit to any particular style, so i’ve been putting off buying a new handbag for ages, and just stick with the same old, same old. so i was really thankful when lo & sons helped pull me out of my rut with this new handbag. designed with travel in mind, they created a small handbag that can be worn four different ways to suit your many different needs: as a classic crossbody, a shoulder bag, a clutch, or a belt bag.

pretty much perfect for my indecisiveness about handbags, don’t you think? i particularly like wearing is as a crossbody or belt bag, but you can see all of the different iterations in the photos. and it comes in black with gold or silver-toned hardware, grey, and sienna leather as seen in my photos.
