tattoo party, part 1

if you follow me on twitter and tumblr, then you may have already seen my little bursts of excitement over an upcoming event! but before i begin, i suppose i should probably give you a bit of a disclaimer: do not try this at home, kids. your mom and dad will be pissed. yesterday i gave diane of too much too young a tattoo. she had never gotten one before, but had expressed interest in getting one. all she wanted was a row of 3 little buttons going down her wrist. i told her that i had given a few tattoos before, so we made plans and voila!

i am not going to tell you how to do it, but it’s pretty basic. you just need a few simple supplies. booze is pretty much required for all parties involved, but unfortunately we may have overdone it juuuust a little bit. it was sleepy time much to early for us last night, so i haven’t completed my work just yet. in fact, after i write this post, i am going to get to work finishing it up and i will show you pictures of it once it is complete! but for now, i thought i would show you how our day went yesterday.

preparations.

one of my besties, scott, came over to watch. my kitty wanted his chow fun!

getting in the mood. we had to shake diane’s nerves!

supplies. we wanted four loko for the occasion, but had to settle for sparks.

the artist and canvas.

scott has a lot of stick and poke tattoos. this one is my favorite.

he also has a really beautiful california tattoo. this one was professionally done, of course.

brendan came home and he was wearing this cute shirt that was screen printed by a friend of ours.

antics ensued, but unfortunately i can’t show you the rest of the photos.

baby erin

after rebecca of the clothes horse recently contacted me to request if she could use one of my baby pictures for this flashback friday post, i realized that i’ve never shared any of my own childhood photos with you. so today i pulled out my little stash of photos to see what i could find. and yes, they were quite entertaining. i love how i basically look like a feral child in these first two photos. for background, i had just managed to get a rather large amount of gum stuck in my hair and apparently i refused to be wrestled down to allow my poor mother to get it out with peanut butter or oil or whatever you’re supposed to do. so yes, she resorted to the scissors!

also, apparently i wasn’t too keen on smiling for photos as is evidenced by a large archive of pictures of me making silly scowling faces or sometimes crying. it was a rare occasion where i would actually cooperate and allow myself to be photographed smiling, but i did find a couple!

and you may note that my hair is blonde in these photos. well, i guess i was one of those rare cases where i was born with blonde hair and it gradually got darker as a i grew older. i don’t dye my hair, that’s just how it happened. to this day, my grandmother still insists that i must dye my hair since she still recalls that my nickname as a kid was “blondie.”

it’s a celebration!

aha, back on the porch at isla’s house for a sunday brunch in celebration of my buddy ethan’s birthday. we all tricked him into thinking that we couldn’t hang out and the surprised him at the bart station with balloons and presents. then we all enjoyed the day eating delicious food and drinking mimosas.

here’s the birthday boy, getting surprised with a bunch of balloons and a bottle of champagne!

the main course consisted of a delicious pizza with eggs baked into it. breakfast pizza!

we followed up the meal with a hookah. ethan can blow the most perfect smoke rings.

my boyfriend doesn’t like his photos so i let him choose which one to put up. he picked this one of him making a silly face.

this passes as a mimosa glass…

ok, so this is the before shot. nicole is showing us the trailer for the human centipede on her iphone.

and the after shots. you’ll have to watch the trailer to understand our pleasure/disgust. but don’t say i didn’t warn you.

happy feet

i really know i should have posted about this a little bit sooner, but i just had to share this cute collection of socks and hosiery by hansel from basel. i’ve actually written about them before because i bought a particular pair of strawberry top crew socks to go with my swedish hasbeens seen here after learning about the collection at fashion for writers. i wanted to dedicate a post to all of their cool socks, but i feel a little bit bad showing you some of these as many styles have already sold out, but there are plenty of great options still in the shop. and you can even purchase items from previous collections. i love their fun and quirky patterns in subdued colors. they’re basically perfect for pairing with cute wedge sandals this spring.

up on the roof

just sharing a few little snapshots from my weekend. these were taken last evening during a quick visit with friends in the mission district in san francisco. roof access is pretty much one of my favorite things ever. perhaps you already figured that out considering the amount of time i spend taking photos up there.

anyway, it’s just us kids having silly mixed drinks made with raspberry vodka, ginger beer, and kombucha whilst eating popsicles and chips with guacamole. yep, that’s a pretty typical weekend activity for me.

endless weekend

i’m not gonna lie. this weekend was pretty amazing. and i felt that it was quite fitting considering the lazy times i had last weekend, getting stuffed on rich foods and napping the whole time. apparently i recharged my batteries just enough to enjoy: nachos for dinner, a late night stroll to the theater to watch greenberg, brunch on the patio at lynn and lu’s, another nice stroll with a successful trip to issues for a copy of russsh and elle uk, a bbq party, another brunch (that lasted all day), and the acquisition of a new (vintage) bike! not bad, i say.

and while i did not bring my camera around documenting all of these things, i did get some photos of an all-day brunch at a friend’s house and a few little shots of my new bike. it’s a 1970 raleigh superbe with a sturmey archer 3-speed internal hub, a brooks saddle, and almost all of the original parts, save the tires and the pump. it came in a ‘his and hers’ matching set, so i bought both with the intention of selling the ‘his’ bike, but my boyfriend took it for a spin and now he wants to keep it. we sure have become quite the bike collectors, considering that these aren’t our only bikes… but i really wanted something fun with an upright ride for casual about-town excursions that would be suitable enough for wearing skirts and heels and things.

and before i finish, i should probably explain one last thing. after i made that little animation below, i recognized that gifs of opening champagne bottles can be a little, ahem, suggestive. but we discovered a new way to open champagne bottles, and i wanted to show you how it’s done. but um, don’t try it at home, kids.

coffee run

i’ve recently been making an effort to record more of my daily life with photos (along with the help of my very sweet boyfriend photographer). i often forget to bring my camera with me when i go places, and even when i do, i usually forget to use it. but i’m trying to expand some of the imagery you might find on my blog in hopes of showing you a bit more about my life and surroundings.
these photos were snapped on saturday morning. my sleepyhead boyfriend and i woke up quite early and decided to take a stroll over to piedmont avenue for some coffee. remember when i said i wore that same basic outfit all weekend? i wasn’t kidding!

at the farm

so i kinda went crazy and took like a million photos during my weekend trip to the farm. so consider yourself forewarned, this is a very picture heavy post! to explain, i went on a little weekend excursion out towards grass valley, ca, to celebrate the birthday of one of my pals, brendan (he’s the dude standing with me in front of the fire in the picture below). his sister recently started a farm there, so we decided to make it a big birthday bash/camping weekend/ good times in the country celebration. it’s pretty funny, despite all of the flannels, beards, and puffy jackets, we certainly do look like a bunch of city kids out in the country!

we arrived on saturday afternoon, and enjoyed the sunny (albeit very chilly) day around the farm, keeping warm by the fire, playing silly basketball games, jumping on the trampoline, kicking around a soccer ball, and other such activities until the evening when a friend’s band arrived to play a set before ending the night with a dance party in the barn. it was all around good times, so i thought i’d share some of the pictures i took from when we arrived, fresh and ready for the debauchery ahead of us. i’ve spared you the photos from later in the evening, or worse, the next day. haha!

we set up the tent! it was seriously cold by this point.

campsite. i’m not gonna lie, when we saw our frozen tent later that night, we retreated to the farm house to sleep on the living room floor.

new hairs

ok, i couldn’t contain myself. i was going to wait until sunday to show you my new haircut when i did my regularly scheduled outfit post, but i just had to show you my new hairs. bear with me, it’s a little self indulgent because it’s just a bunch of pictures of my face. but i’m excited because i had only intended to go in for a little trim because i could no longer see past my fringe, but i came out with a completely new style that’s going to work so well with all of the little 60’s dresses i’ve been collecting for the spring.

as always, this cut was the work of my favoritest hairstylist in the whole wide world, shannon at revamp salon in san francisco. the best part is that he is also my pal, so after the cut, we went out for delicious vegan sausages and chocolate stout at a bar nearby. pretty sweet deal if you ask me!
