fashion forestry

yesterday, after i mentioned nicole of fashion forestry, i decided that she’s just so amazing that she deserves a post all to her own.  i haven’t done a feature on one of my favorite bloggers in a long while, but i think it’s important to write about the people who inspire me the most and to share it with you!
i have actually been fortunate enough to spend a little bit of time with nicole because she just so happens to live in san francisco.  she has an adorable apartment filled to the brim with tons of amazing vintage clothes and decorations.  you could seriously just poke around for days playing dress up and rummaging through her makeup bag.  but besides having such a unique sense of style, she is also a fashion designer and has her own etsy shop with some pretty epic pieces up for sale in her etsy shop with more to come soon!

so feast your eyes on the explosion of colors, patterns, hats, and makeups, and be sure to visit her blog for more!

on the heels of my last post about a certain pair of new shoes, i decided to make an announcement!

with the holiday season upon us, i’m sure you’ve all started to shift focus and start holiday shopping for family and friends.  while that’s all good fun, i’ve decided to host a twitter holiday promotion to offer you the chance to think about what you really want for the holidays and to win something for yourself in the process!

i’ve partnered up with t.j.maxx and marshalls to bring you this exciting promotion, i’ve never done a twitter contest before, so i’m really excited to be able to open this up to you!  t.j.maxx and marshalls offer savings of up to 60% on in-season and brand name merchandise.  in fact, i just scored this pair of amazing designer shoes there from the ‘runway’ section!

share your holiday wish with me each week for a chance to be randomly selected as a winner of a $50 gift card for t.j.maxx and marshalls. with amazing prices on holiday gifts, you may find goodies for yourself and others on your holiday shopping list!
at the end of the promotion, we’ll also be awarding a $200 grand prize gift card good at t.j.maxx or marshalls, so the more you tweet, the better your odds are of winning the ultimate prize!
the details:

a few new things

a few new things
just popping in today to share a few recent purchases that i acquired yesterday.  after a long day at work which involved locking my keys (and purse and wallet) in the car during my lunch break, i came home to a couple of nicely wrapped packages that arrived in the mail while i was out, including this adorable fur peter pan collar with an olive green satin bow from get lucky vintage and my dream cats 2011 calendar complete with a surprise photo print.  then i went on a little shopping trip to tj maxx and scored this incredible pair of blush pink chloÁ© heels!and while you won’t be able to go out and pick up the collar or the shoes, you can still buy the dreamcats calendar from field guided.  best calendar ever.

hannah photographed this lovely outfit for her vintage shop, the loved one.  i am hoping that beautiful brown skirt will go up for sale (and that it’s my size) because i would snap it up in an instant!
all i can really say is that nicole has the absolute best airport style i have ever seen.  nicole is becoming my hero when it comes to styling up these eclectic outfits with lots of cute creatures and amazing color combinations.
i don’t know how she did it, but she pulled off wearing a violin dress.  and for that, i am in awe.
i recently discovered this beautiful flickr stream on anja’s tumblr and will admit that i may have spent about an hour going through all of the images there.  her outfit is beautiful and the photo is equally stunning.  also: cat party!
this is actually a snapshot from a vintage shopping trip, but it really does make the perfect outfit!  i am now on the hunt for a fuzzy mustard yellow cape.  enough said.
this lovely lady has combined all of my interests into one look!  clothes, cats, and cycling.  win.

these colors

calivintage: orange and black
today i had a bit of fun mixing colors. i bought this vintage 1940’s black and orange dress last year, but i’ve only worn it a couple of times.  i think the challenge is that it’s, well, black and orange.  definitely appropriate for halloween.  also appropriate for celebrating the giants winning the world series.  but the rest of the year, i find it challenging to work with this particular color.  i’ve been living in these super warm olive green tights, so i sorta just threw them on as an afterthought, but you know what?  green is a really nice compliment to orange, especially this muted shade. so here’s to continuing experiments with color!
hm.  and now that i think of it, this orange color has got me craving some pumpkin pie!  i haven’t had a slice yet this year, and i’ve got quite the hankering. and i have two little pumpkins sitting in my kitchen just waiting for the transformation.  never made a pumpkin pie from scratch before, but i think i’m gonna try.  ah yes, don’t we all love a good excuse to sit around eating food all day?

textures

i recently bought a lovely mohair cardigan in a dark charcoal grey, and i’m obsessed with the fuzzy texture.  in fact, i’ve just been really interested in all sorts of textures lately, which is why this simple editorial at la garconne is particularly appealing to my senses. i don’t have the budget to be picking up any of the designer pieces shown, but they’ll certainly come in handy as inspiration when i got out thrifting this weekend.  fuzzy sweaters, tweeds, and baubles for all!

a neighborhood stroll

calivintage: mellow yellow
it feels like it’s been such an awfully long time since i’ve done a post out in the world rather than on my little rooftop!  so today i decided to take you on a little walk around my neighborhood in oakland and show you a few sights.  on this particular day, we woke up late and lazy, and strolled over to one of our favorite breakfast spots, lynn and lu’s escapade cafe.  it’s a little hole-in-the-wall with really good prices for the bay area (think: $7.95 for eggs benedict!), and they have the nicest staff in the world.  they come by every 10 seconds to fill up your mug of coffee and your food usually arrives in what feels like 2 minutes!  also: on our walk to get brunch, we passed by this silly mural, but when i went over to get my picture in front of it, i spotted a black cat in the window with dreamy green eyes.  as you can see, i was just a little excited…
as far as my clothes, i’m wearing two brand new pieces that came in the mail last week, and i can officially say that i’m addicted to shopping at asos online.  this mustard yellow trench coat could pass off as vintage, and the knit sweater dress is now the most comfortable dress in my closet. i want to wear them both every single day, which is a sign of a good purchase.

jack spade

this year, with the holidays around the corner, i’ve resolved to do all of my gift shopping ahead of time so i won’t have to do all that dreaded last minute scrambling. the only catch is that i’m far too busy these days to actually make it to the department stores and gift shops, so i’ve been doing what i do best: spending my time on the internet!  haha.  as in, i’ve been browsing the gift guides that have been popping up left and right.  and jack spade has the absolute best gift guide of the year.  hands down.  they’ve conveniently organized their best gift items by price point, but with a very cute angle. i think my favorite category would have to be: living with your parents. again.
