gift guide: adam’s 3rd birthday

calivintage toddler gift guide

it’s party month over here at calivintage! adam’s birthday was on the 10th and mine is on the 20th, so it kinda feels like we’re those last people at the holiday party lingering just a little too long haha. most people have moved on to their new workout routines and green smoothies or whatever, but we’re still eating cake and popping bottles of champagne sparkling cider. but hey, people celebrate birthdays every day of the year, so there’s really no better time than now to share some of the gifts that i’ve been eying for a just-about-to-be-three-year-old boy. in particular, adam’s interests include trucks, monster trucks, cars, and trains. notice the theme? but he’s also got an artsy side and spends a lot of time drawing, painting, coloring, and reading books. most of his drawings are of monster trucks. and his favorite book is about the history of monster trucks…

so yeah, he likes trucks. but i also try to keep things balanced so that he’s still exploring other things and learning new skills. he has a ukelele on a stand that he is welcome to experiment with, and there’s a little baby doll in a toy pram that he mostly ignores these days, but it’s all there for him when the mood strikes him! sometimes he decides to cook us lunch on his toy kitchen, and he does spend a good amount of time playing with blocks and legos and lincoln logs in order to build tunnels and garages for his trucks, haha.

all of this is to say that i try to be observant of his interests, but i also don’t necessarily zone in on only one thing. he might only want trucks for his birthday, but i also sneak in some other stuff that i know he might like. so with that in mind, i decided to pull together a quick gift guide with items from my favorites kids shop, bitte. or if you don’t happen to be looking for gifts for three-year-old boys, i also pulled together a gift guide with my eight-month-old edith in mind, which you can see here.

bitte tastemaker talks

bitte tastemaker series - calivintage

so excited to share that i was interviewed by bitte as part of their tastemaker talks series! this is especially awesome because bitte is easily one of my favorite online children’s boutiques, and the place where i get a lot of the cute toys and clothes you see around my house. the shop was started a few years back by maia mcdonald (of pinterest and rue magazine fame) shortly after her adorable daughter was born. together with her mom as her partner, she’s managed to create a beautiful shopping experience filled with ethically made and aesthetically pleasing toys, books, and clothes for kids of all ages. but enough talking, you should go see for yourself! read my interview here and take a look at my collection of favorites here!

new shop to watch: bitte

bitte-1

you may remember a couple of months back, i wrote about the fundable campaign behind a new online children’s boutique, bitte. well, since then, the venture has been backed and shop owner maia mcdonald smith has been a busy bee getting everything in order! the shop just launched last week, and i am currently scrolling through the inventory trying to resist temptation to buy all of the things!

every item in the shop was chosen with a focus on sustainable practices and modern design. if that’s not enough for you, they’ll also be featuring some of their top makers so you can get to know the people behind the brands. and they’ll also be teaming up with top bloggers to share helpful gift guides and top picks. first up, they’ve profiled the talented founder of petit collage, one of my favorite oakland-based children’s brands. and they’re sharing top picks from ashley muir bruhn of hither and thither and erin heimstra of apartment 34.

bitte

my internet pal maia mcdonald has just launched a fundable campaign for her new venture, bitte! and of course, it’s right down my alley. she’s teamed up with her mother (and former vice president of product development and creative services at faber-castell usa, no big deal) to start a new baby boutique, and they’re asking friends, family, and the great big internet for help meeting their funding goals. the focus of their latest venture is “to create a unique and trusted marketplace of carefully curated products for young children.” each product is meticulously assessed based upon sustainability, form & function, so you can enjoy shopping knowing that each item has been carefully selected, and has earned the bitte stamp of approval.

and of course, maia is not without her own credentials. she’s a pinterest wizard, freelance graphic designer, art director at rue magazine, and a new mother. i am so excited about her latest venture, and can’t wait to see more! and if that’s not enough convincing, check out the sneak peek of fun items you can score with your pledge to back to the project.

now go fund bitte!
