as i’m sure you know by now, i have been a big fan of elizabeth suzann since her very first days as a designer. so it is no surprise that i am hugely excited about the release of her new cold weather collection. granted, i don’t live in a very cold clime, but the collection was very thoughtfully created in a similar vein as their signature collection. they are all timeless classics that may change and evolve over time, but that will remain a core set of garments offered year round for chilly summer evenings or crisp winter days alike.

and of course, as you have come to expect from elizabeth suzann, everything has been created with the same design philosophy: to make getting dressed easy and enjoyable, while being comfortable and functional. but one thing that really stands out about the new collection is the story about how they’ve improved their supply chain. of the change, they said:

with the shift to a permanent cold weather collection, fabric selection felt more significant than any other seasonal collection. we decided to make a monumental shift to using all locally woven wool fabric from our good friends at tennessee textile mill right here in nashville. the wool yarn is also sourced domestically in oregon at imperial stock ranch. the implications of moving not only to locally woven fabric but also domestically sourced wool yarn are many and significant, including a complicated supplier process, in addition to an increase in price to account for both the vastly improved yarn and local production. these were obstacles we considered and ultimately decided were worth overcoming, and we hope that you agree.

the end result is an incredibly luxurious collection of wearable garments that will act as mainstays in your closet that can be worn for years to come.

elizabeth suzann spring 2016

ESSS16 -NYC_041

the new elizabeth suzann spring 2016 lookbook is out and it is so good. if you’re looking to build a versatile wardrobe with clothes that can be worn during any season and mixed and matched in countless ways, then look no further than elizabeth suzann. she has figured out the art of dressing with easy pieces in quality textiles like silk, linen, and cotton. in addition to a signature collection filled with the best basics, she has been hitting it out of the park with her seasonal collections. on spring, she says:

“I’ve never been a warm weather person. I’ve written before about how I prefer fall and winter – I’m uncomfortable with my skin exposed, I am much more at home swathed and wrapped in protective layers. And yet, despite all that, my most fond memories are of times spent in the sun and heat. It seems, in my mind, that there is simply more real living to be done in the bright, warm, light of day. How can I make myself, and other women like me, feel at home in their own skin and able to freely enjoy the incredible experiences these warm seasons have to offer? What are we lacking, what have I longed to dress in on those days I remember so fondly?”

she was heavily inspired by shapes for the season. from the triangular shape of the elodie work belt to the rectangular shape of the caftan to the spherical form of the olina jumpsuit. i own some of her clothes and i can attest to the fact that each piece drapes perfectly on the body giving off the air of such minimal effort that it feels more like a second skin.

elizabeth suzann fall 2015

oh man you guys, i’m still not back in the swing of things over here, but i had to pop in to belatedly share the elizabeth suzann fall 2015 collection. it’s been out for a little bit now, but we’re just barely getting some cooler days in these parts, so i have only been slowly getting used to the idea of fall clothes. and if i could swathe myself in only one collection this fall, it would probably be this one. i’ve been following elizabeth suzann since her first collection a few years ago (i have her classic vera slip dress that i wear on fancy occasions), and her designs really truly get better and better every season. for fall, there are lots of luxurious textures and interesting silhouettes, which were inspired by louise bourgeois and eva hesse. of the collection, she says,

Some of my favorite artists influenced the Fall/Winter 2015 collection. Texture fascinated these women, who adeptly created tactile sensation through visual art alone. I have always been selective about what fabrics we use, but texture and fiber were driving forces this season. We wanted to use fabrics that are not only incredibly warm and rich, but that intrigue before you even touch them – sheer wool gauze, chunky rib knit, fuzzy woven wools.

The collection was not only shaped by the works of great artists, but also by their lives and the lives of all creatives. I find that an artist’s wardrobe can be so informative. They are aesthetic and visual individuals that also require practicality and function. Deep pockets, easy layering pieces, heavy-weight wools that can stand up to dead-of-winter cold – this collection is our most versatile yet. Structured and architectural pieces can be dressed down and layered, or worn alone for striking simplicity.

my current favorite is the holland pant. apparently they were a popular style because they are already out of stock with more coming soon. i really love the way her variety textures and textiles elevate these simple, yet elegant and very wearable clothes.

elizabeth suzann spring 2014

i first discovered elizabeth suzann and her namesake nashville-based collection several months back. i took one look at her work and fell in love with the minimal aesthetic and fine fabrics, and after a few email exchanges, she so very sweetly sent me one of her dresses. unfortunately, i was pregnant at the time and my belly grew so rapidly that i had to banish it on my rack of clothes until i could finally fit back into it! over the weekend, i finally pulled it on with a crisp white t-shirt (instagram proof here) and now it is all i want to wear! and lucky me, she’s just released her new spring 2014 collection which is now available for preorder. and wouldn’t you know? after all of my recent swooning over jumpsuits, she’s designed the perfect one!
