outfit: long layers

calivintage - long layers

over the past couple of years, i’ve been wearing a lot of crop tops. and while i still love them to death, lately i’ve been having fun playing around with different proportions. especially now that we’re transitioning into fall and i’m itching to change up my style a little bit, while still keeping cool in these hot southern california temperatures. this loose, swingy dress by jane sews is definitely long enough to wear on it’s own, but it’s also really great for layering.when the weather gets a little cooler, i plan to pull it on over a dark turtleneck and under an easy trench coat for a completely different look.

jane sews slow fashion

unnamed

as time goes by, my style has seen a lot of subtle change. one major focus for me in more recent years has been a movement away from fast fashion, with a focus on timeless, understated pieces that can be worn any time of year, regardless of the trends. so of course, the new jane sews slow fashion lookbook is right down my alley. the collection is crafted from natural fabrics, like pure linens and super soft tencel. i love the pared-down aesthetic with lots of relaxed pieces that can be layered in any number of ways or worn simply with a few key accessories.

if you’re not familiar with the brand, jane sews is an independent clothing and footwear brand based in durban, south africa. each collection is designed in-house by their small team of makers, and they do not outsource or mass produce any of their products. the focus is on quality and classic design translated into key pieces that you can build your wardrobe around, with everything made from quality materials and designed with great care.

jane sews summer capsule

today is a good day for those of you in the southern hemisphere! the south african-based label jane sews has just released their new summer capsule collection, and as expected, it’s a good one! designer amy venter has introduced a beautiful new set of classic dresses and separates in a clean black and cream palette with the cutest little sandals and handbags to go with them. the palm print is fun and playful without being overdone, just the type of thing i would love to wear on that imaginary resort vacation i’ve got planned in my head. everything is constructed in crisp cotton, breezy rayon, and luxurious silk blends right in their durban studio, at an incredibly affordable price point. if you haven’t taken the time to check out this brand, then today is the day!

jane sews fall 2014

the new jane sews fall 2014 collection is out and i think i’m in love. in fact, i think i’ve found a solution to my new warmer clime: shopping designers in the southern hemisphere! actually, even though jane sews is based in south africa, her focus is really on timeless pieces that are suitable for all seasons. and she really has done just that with her latest collection. i can easily see myself wearing any one of these looks just as they are styled, or switching them out with a pair of ankle boots and a light jacket when the temperatures finally dip.

jane sews spring 2013

one of my favorite things about the internet is being able to discover new brands and to connect with people all across the globe. which is exactly what happened yesterday when i received a little press release announcing the jane sews spring 2013 collection. i don’t think i had ever heard of them before, but one look at this fresh lookbook and i was hooked. they are a small label based in durban, south africa creating easy-to-wear vintage-inspired pieces using natural fabrics and timeless silhouettes. that pretty much sums up what i want my closet to look like, so of course, i am now lusting after many of these dresses and separates.
