as i’m sure you’ve noticed by now, there’s a pretty steady trend in the shows that i attended during nyfw. i (as you would expect) generally lean towards vintage-inspired collections that are wearable and on the more affordable end of the spectrum in terms of designer clothing. but that isn’t to say that i don’t appreciate the more intricate and ornate work of designers like oscar de la renta. i had the pleasure of being able to attend the spring 2012 show and snagged a pretty awesome spot standing at the end of the runway, where i attempted to digest all of the beautiful details as they flew past. and there was a lot to take in: from the cool ’70s separates to the cinderella-esque ball gowns complete with ornate little slippers! i was delighted by the chartreuse hues, and charmed by the cute low-heeled sandals and clear vinyl booties. and that’s only scratching the surface.
i actually had the opportunity to visit the oscar de la renta studio back in febraury during fashion week, and got to see first-hand the amount of fine handwork that goes into each one of these incredible pieces. every time a model flew by on the runway, i was reminded of all the hard work and dedication that i had seen last season. so i don’t speak lightly when i say that it was truly an honor to have been able to experience such a beautiful show.
