mama & baby style tips with swapdom (+ win free shipping!)

ever since relocating to los angeles and having a baby, i’ve been doing a lot of serious closet cleaning. the entire process has made me completely rethink my wardrobe, and as a result, i have a ridiculous amount of stuff that i’ve been parting with. i’ve been splitting things up into multiple piles: there’s the stuff i’ve been donating, there are the clothes i’m trading on swapdom, some nicer items that i will be continuing to sell in my online shop, and then finally, i’m left with what i’m actually wearing and keeping. this past week, i uploaded a bunch of my clothes on swapdom, and have already listed a handful of cute baby wares that adam has grown out of. if you’re interested in trading with me, you can sign up for swapdom here. it’s free to use and you can swap any of your clothes for the cost of shipping.

through the entire process, i’ve learned a lot of valuable lessons about how to control my spending and to get better mileage out of what i own. so swapdom asked if i’d like to share a few pointers on dressing myself as a new mom, and on dressing my little one in all his cute outfits. you can head over here to check it out.

swapdom would also like to offer three lucky winners free shipping on their next swap! simply leave a comment letting us know which swapdom item is your favorite! three winners will be randomly selected next monday, may 5.

let’s swap baby clothes!

you may remember a little while back, i wrote a bit about swapdom. it’s an online swapping site where you can post items you no longer want and trade them with other members of the community. i’ve really enjoyed using the site because it’s free to use (you only pay for shipping) and you can share your clothes while getting new ones without ever having to bother with shopping malls or fast fashion superstores.

and this week, they’ve added a baby & children’s section to the mix, and it couldn’t have come at a better time! now, i will admit that i’m teasing you with the photo above because none of those items are up for swaps (yet), but i do have a few very nice unused items that i already don’t need. i bought several packs of gerber’s onesies and side-snap shirts only to discover that my chubby little baby doesn’t actually fit in their 0 – 3 month sizing. and i was gifted a few items here and there that just didn’t work out. the piÁ¨ce de rÁ©sistance is one of those really cool baby k’tan carriers. i would keep it, but i was actually gifted two of them! and so on and so on. babies grow out of clothes so fast (or never even wear them), so over the next several months, i’ll be listing plenty of stuff. he already has a few super nice j.crew onesies that are getting rather snug…

and of course, you don’t need to offer up children’s clothes to swap. i have a few regular-sized clothes still up for grabs, and will be listing some of my old maternity pieces later today. you can see what i’ve listed so far on my swapdom profile.

let’s swap clothes!

a few recent life changes have pushed me to do some major closet purging over the last couple of months. it’s just what happens when you relocate from one climate to another all while watching your belly expand to proportions you didn’t think possible. but even if you aren’t going through something as major as a move or a pregnancy, there’s still always that 20% (or more) of your wardrobe that just hangs in the back of the closet. you fully intend to wear them one day, but let’s face it, sometimes you have to admit defeat and accept that it’s time to part ways. i really like the idea of swapping clothes because it’s fun to see my stuff go off to nice new homes, and it’s a way for me to get new things without having to give in to the lure of fast-fashion.

enter swapdom. they recently got in touch with me and asked me if i’d be interested in giving it a try. it usually takes a lot for me to try a new startup site, but with a duffle bag full of stuff just waiting to go, i decided to give it a whirl. swapdom allows you to request items you love, tell swapdom what you’d offer in exchange, and then sit back and let swapdom organize a multi-person swap for you. all you have to do is pay the postage on any items you receive in your swap. for my first round, i took a few minutes to snap some photos and have listed a few items up on my profile. i’m only showing a little sneaky peek here, but i’ve already listed items from paul & joe sister, quicksilver, ace & jig, asos, and ark & co.

the site is still in private beta, but you can bypass the wait list with this link so you can start swapping right now and get a better look at the items i’ve listed so far! and if you upload three items to start, you’ll get free shipping on your first swap. so get to it, because i’m on the hunt for some new clothes!
