teddy girl

jacket: boyfriend blazer courtesy of LOFT shirt: j.crew selvedge chambray shirt jeans: j brand 910 the oslo jeans in indigo shoes: wedge sandals courtesy of LOFT scarf: vintage silk scarfsince i’ve been having so much fun tying my hair up in vintage scarves with my little pompadour poof these past couple of days, i starting thinking of different ways to play it up. instead of just being all rosy-the-riveter with it (which is awesome, don’t get me wrong), today i decided to take some inspiration from the teddy girls of london in the 1950s. it’s just a touch of inspiration here since i’m definitely rocking a much more modern and refined version, so you can probably expect to see me trying this again with a bit more of a rough edge and edwardian twist. (i think i need some cameos, perhaps.) anyway, i went with my chambray and skinny jeans rolled up at the cuffs since the teddy girls were predominantly working class, and i know you’ve heard me mention my recent taste for everything work wear inspired. the blazer and heels dress it up a bit, and the scarf completes the look.

but i suppose more than anything, the idea of these rough and tumble kids on the streets of london in the 50s had me feeling a bit like a delinquent walking around the neighborhood for my photo shoot today. it was kinda fun to move out of cute territory and into something a bit more tough than my typical looks.

  1. Is this what you were tweeting about? I love the outcome! Your wedges – ah I'm totally gawking over them. I love the photo of you sitting on the stairs and the one of you up against the telephone pole. Haute!!!

  2. hehe I do my hair like that on a regular basis too. Only thing is it is actually a pain for me to try to get my hair all up, while you don't have to really do much. . I've been getting lazy with my hair though. Too long to do cool things with and I like it down, which is sad for all the people who subscribe and wait for my hair tutorials that have been on hold. Teddy girls style is definitely awesome. My husband is really into the working class 60s mod style and told me that he sometimes doesn't know which is cooler. . that or the working class greaser look. He sticks to the UK fashion side though mainly. You rock those skinny jeans well, girl! I commend you.

  3. The hot weather that's hit us in the CV (Central Valley) definitely got me to break out the scarves! I'm growing my hair out right now, and it's not yet long enough to wear my hair up and be stylish. Hence, needing/loving the scarves.

  4. This is so cool! Can you supply a link to your teddy girl inspiration? I'm super intrigued. Or I guess I could just google teddy girls… :P

  6. I think it's great that you're able to rock both whimsical outfits and tougher looks like this one. I'm all about sweet vintage dresses, but sometimes I wish I dressed a bit edgier.

  12. OMG I did not recognize you in the first photo. You look spectacular and so different. :)

Also the Edwardian themed photos, looking at the top half of your body anyone would think you are actually from another era. :)
