advanced style

i know it’s been a while since then, but during a conversation with some of the bloggers at the weardrobe conference, rebecca of the clothes horse called a certain website to my attention after i hinted that i occasionally take fashion tips from little old ladies riding the bus. yes, that’s right, sometimes i look to the geriatric for style inspiration, and i’m not ashamed. it’s where i first discovered the hat scarf (or snood, if you will. that’s a scarf with a hood, my friends) and it’s why i’ll always be very fond of a comfy cozy cardigan. in fact, these sophisticated older ladies and gentleman are the ones hoarding all that awesome vintage in their closets that us greedy vintage bloggers just can’t wait to get our hands on!

so since i didn’t exactly get dressed today, i decided to share with you some inspiration of the advanced style. which happens to be the name of a pretty cool blog with a nice collection of street style pictures from a more sophisticated age set. while browsing through the images on said blog, i noticed that a lot of images were taken from mister mort. so for the sake of giving the proper credit, all images from column a were pulled from advanced style, while the images on column b were taken from mister mort. here’s to dressing stylishly for many years to come!

  1. Amen to that! BTW, I wish I could wake you up with a cup of coffee every morning, too! But, not in a weird way – in a I-wish-we-lived-closer kind of way :)

  2. Hee Hee! I, too, get inspired by golden gals! When I worked in a doctor's office I used to get lots of fashion advice from older patients. Like pinning your tights to your bra to prevent then from rolling down and creating love handles! :)

  3. What a Fun Blog Idea! Thank you for Sharing!

I definitely agree with you, especially that the most amazing treasure pieces found during thrifting are coming from older generations!

They shouldn't be ignored for their current and past fashion style ;)

  4. um weeeird, i was totally just on this website givin' kudos to all these old timers! they are amazing! i'm with you on getting style inspiration from the old folks, they came from a time when everybody seemed to care a little more about dressing up, and nobody EVER went to the grocery store or ran their errands in their pjs. i love it. there is this one old lady who frequents the breakfast restaurant i waitress at, she always wears the most amazing clothes from the 60s and 70s, the other day she came in with a red mini dress, perfectly triangular white color underneath, and floral scarf, and black hosiery, i wanted to die, she's so HOT! :) oh yes, good stuff!
p.s. still totally psyched for that interview – no hurry thought of course :)

  5. Older people seriously know how to dress. I feel it is the very young and the very old that tend to be so fearless and thus very inspiring!

it's amazing how older people dress . chich grannies and grandpas ! no wonder many of us like to steal vintage jewelry and cardigans from nana . haha ..

my nana would definately fit in here ! she wears makeup everyday where i dont even wear makeup . and she always wear matching dress with nice shoes and bags .

  8. Love this!!! My nana would fit perfect on advanced style- she has one of the best styles I have seen (that is actually where I get my sense of style from). Secretly I want her to give me her clothes because they are so pretty. hehe

  9. Now that lady dressed in brown – trench + brolly + bangs – if I could dress half as stylishly as she does when I grow older, I actually wouldn't mind being old(er)!
