animal instincts

this is the first time i’ve worn leopard print. ever. in my life. crazy, no? but there’s a first time for everything! i found them at the drug store a few months ago and decided that it would be the least expensive way for me to incorporate an animal print into my wardrobe. problem is, they just sat there in my wardrobe, staring at me. i have to tell you, i have this issue with half of the clothes in my closet! in fact, this vintage pendleton actually belongs to my boyfriend. granted, i bought it at the thrift store as a gift… but there i go again, raiding his closet. oh well, it makes for good entertainment: when i get dressed in one of his shirts, i usually parade out of the bedroom and introduce myself to him in a silly voice and try to do my best impression. today he was grumpy, so i crossed my arms in front of my chest and said, “hi, i’m brendan. i’m gruuumpy.” at least i got a chuckle.

  1. i steal my boyfriends clothes too! ;) i have to say, this is my most favorite outfit of yours to date…oh yeah, and drugstore tights kick ass. :)

  2. ahhhh i want those tights!!! I saw someone wearing a pair very similar to those a few months ago but theirs were from H&M which of course was out of them and had no plans to restock when i finally made my way there. guess i have to start hitting up walgreens huh..haha

  3. ohhh, Erin! I've got the same tights, aren't they SO COOL!?
You look awesome, always look forward to your outfit posts.
    xoxo

  4. You are so adorable!!! I love the dressing in your man's clothes story!

I really like the mix of patterns… I have been trying to incorporate pattern play a bit more when dressing. I went through this animal print stage in late high school…I was pretty obsessed, and wore it nearly everyday. I have really wanted to buy a leopard print cardigan of some sort lately, but I think I ruined it for myself early on in life!

  5. I bought a leopard cardigan in tenth grade and it took me years, literally years, to be comfortable enough with it to wear it. Six years later, it's a wardrobe staple!

  6. You know what I've never worn any animal print before, was never a fan, but honestly your tights are winning me over!! They are AMAZING!

  7. oooh leopard is my favorite pattern EVER! I've been wanting leopard tights or leggings for awhile now… had no idea they'd carry them at the drug store!

I love how you've kept the same color palette but mixed the prints and textures. gorgeous, dahling, simply gorgeous!

  8. This rocks. Love the masculine/feminine and wild/subdued piece mixing and of course those prints are genius together the way they are totally different yet share a common color scheme, nicely done!

  9. drugstore, really? those tights are so bold! i have a pair from topshop that look suuuuuper faded and unflattering. only wore 'em once though…

  10. It's gutsy but you're definitely pulling it off! I like how you're not matching the patterns but the colours. And I really like anything Pendleton. Thanks for sharing. I just discovered your blog and an really digging it by the way!

  15. I got a pair of similar tights to wear on NYE and have been testing them in everyday situations since…I get a lot of stares, but I love them. I love what you did here, especially, with the plaid shirt. Great depth to this outfit!

  16. I was really anti-leopard print but as soon as I let it in to my wardrobe I was thoroughly addicted. I particularly like teaming it with other prints, like you have here with the shirt or with a floral dress.

I'm wearing boyf clothes right now too ^^

  17. I have never been an animal print person, but I recently decided that I could go for a leopard pattern scarve. You give me confidence that that's okay.

    Cute skirt too!

  21. you're really rocking those animal print tights. love it with the plaid and the whole color palette is just fantastic :D

  22. I just bought my first piece of animal print stuff too! For years I hated how it looked, but since I've been breaking a lot of my own 'rules' I decided to go for it.

By the way, you rocked 'em!

  23. I LOVE it! You look fantastic! That's it! You've inspired my outfit for tomorrow: highwaisted skirt and animal tights.

Isn't it nice to be inspiring?
