take a hike

it’s sunday, folks. and i’ve decided to do something a little different and write a post about something that isn’t fashion/style-related. i don’t know why i hesitate to post this kind of content so much, but i’m going to try to come out of my shell just a tad and show you some of the other things in my life. but just a little. i’m still wary about posting anything too personal in public.

so behold: a close-up of yours truly wearing no makeup in millions of layers of practical clothes. i went on a little hike in mt. tamalpais yesterday. we had actually originally intended to do a much more vigorous trek, but i accidentally slept for twelve hours and didn’t wake up early enough to leave us with a sufficient amount of daylight for anything very strenuous. oh well! i felt kinda gross and awkward with so many layers of clothes on, and i spent a lot of time trying to think up the ideal outfits to wear whilst hiking. i have come up with some very good ideas, so expect more on that later!

anyway, while on our little hike, we came upon a fun little place called the nature friends tourist club. unfortunately, it was closed yesterday, so we’ll have to go back soon. in fact, we’ve decided to go back out there in a couple of weeks with a crew of friends. we’re going to bike up from san francisco and then do a little 45 minute hike up to the tourist club for a few beers before making the trek back out, and riding our bikes to tiburon to catch a ferry back to oakland. these are the absolute perfect day trips. a few months back, we did a similar ride with a group of friends and ended up at a bar in port costa. we actually took photos and recorded quite a bit of video from the trip. perhaps i’ll have to post that up on my blog, too.

i wanted my picture in front of this silly little cabinet. this is near the nature friends tourist club.

that’s my boyfriend making a sneaky little appearance.

you can’t tell from the photo, but that horizon line is actually the ocean!

  1. I love these pictures. I'm jealous of all your outside excursions. I need to do more of that myself. And good on yuh for being personal. I like it.

  2. It's really interesting to read something like this from you. Like a sneak peek into your life outside style. I like it. More of this kinda stuff, please! :)

  3. This is one of the reasons I miss living in California so much! I love hiking. Too bad it's flat and freezing in Chicago!

  4. Fun! Nature hikes are the best thing ever. Looks like a really great place, that funny little cabinet is pretty darn cute. Like being in a German fairytale forest, or at least one of those weird old forest theme park things.

  5. Ah, hiking up mr. tam is so pretty :) Because I am a weakling with no muscles I never plan for anything very strenuous, but feel proud of the exertion I took nonetheless!

Anyway, your pictures are still very cool and beautiful, even if they are not strictly fashion related! And I totally wear Smart Wool tights too under my jeans (and just as regular tights) when trying to keep warm on chilly days!!

  6. i love the red laces on the desert boots!

also i want some mountains to hike. no mountains in the prairies of Illinois!

  7. I love your pictures. I've only gone hiking once and well, I was not prepare. I wore ballet flats and a trench coat. I was on a trip and we went to a fort, actually my group took a rail car but I didn't realize what was going on hence the big mistake.

  8. Aww, I like these posts too . . . super honest and everyday, and you look great! I love the tan coat and the shoes, and today at R.E.I. I almost invested in a pair of Smart wools because of your socks and platform boots outfits. (I'll have to go back)

  9. we should on a hike together love. i've got no one to do it with so let me know when you go next! btw, even still, with your relaxed look, you look so lovely. your hair looks great…did Shannon cut shorter? I love.

    xx.

  10. What a beautiful place, reminds me of hiking in Austria. I never expected California to look like that! You still look really cool in practical clothes :)

  11. amazing! i miss hiking in california. i always stuggled to find a hiking outfit i was both comfortable & cute in. you did it well. and i love your hair…it reminds me of my mom in the late 70's/ early 80's.
