heat wave

i may have already mentioned several times that the temperatures reached up over 90 degrees here in the bay area this weekend. you might know this because i mentioned it on twitter, tumblr, and in my last blog post. even though i’m a native to the southern california desert, it appears as though the last 10 years of living in northern california have gotten me pretty well acclimated to the cooler temperatures. after all that wishing for hotter weather, i have to admit i wasn’t quite prepared for the sweltering heat. even with my super short hair, i couldn’t stand the feeling of it touching the back of my neck and forehead, so i improvised with this retro ‘do and pulled it all back with a vintage scarf. i felt so perfectly work wear inspired with my head wrap that it only felt fitting to pair it with a bit of chambray.

getting dressed this weekend was definitely more about keeping cool than anything else. living in places where the weather gets hot, it’s pretty much essential to ditch the layers and go for something really cool and simple. times like this you can really only reach for a dress and add a bit of personality with a few vintage accessories.

  1. I love this look. Your short hair looks awesome scooped back with the scarf – very fresh looking. & I love the look of the blue chambray with the yellow clogs. Basically, I'm just all over this!

  2. at risk of sounding like an absolute perv I just want to say that that dress looks AMAZING on your boobs!

  3. This is the PERFECT vintage-inspired outfit (complete with the 'do!). It's like… Rosie the Riveter going on a picnic.

And I hear you about the hair during the sweltering heat! Even though I have short hair, my forehead feels trapped under my bangs when it gets really impossibly humid outside. I have to try that hairstyle myself!

  4. Oh wow! Your hair looks awesome that way–you are so 1940's working woman with a mustardy twist. Great hot weather outfit. I may take a cue from you today.

  5. I love this dress on you!!! It's seriously the perfect thing for gruesomely hot weather (my newest turn of phrase about exceedingly warm temps! ;) lol.); the simpler in fit, the better, imho. The scarf and sunnies add a bit of glamor to the look!

  7. Agreed, no matter how often I wish for warm weather in SF, I'm always so whiney when it happens, haha. You look great, though, and I do think I"m going to try that 'do out sometime soon! Love it!
