stop american censorship

i know that if you use some of the most popular sites around the web (i.e. google, wordpress, tumblr) or are active on social networks (i.e. facebook and twitter), then you’re probably already aware of the current sopa strike. and i know that obama has already vowed to strike down the sopa and pipa bills, and that with increasing pressure, many senators have now backed down. and while i know i may not have all that much muscle in this little space on the web, i just wanted to let you know that i decided to postpone my scheduled post for today in solidarity with the movement.

so just in case you haven’t already, i strongly urge you to watch this video and to write to your senators to protect our right to share content on the web! it doesn’t stop here! click here for more information.

  1. So happy you posted this. I already e-mailed Nancy Pelosi….It’s pretty powerful to witness solidarity against SOPA via the various social media platforms.

  2. Thanks! This is so important. I hadn’t heard that Pres. Obama had vowed to reject this legislation, but that’s a ray of hope I’m glad to hear.

  3. Thanks for posting this! It’s so very important for the internet community to hear about this and take action. Without people taking the time to sign those petitions everything will go wrong–and fast. I wrote a post on my blog, too, and also did a ‘temporary shut down’ so that when you searched for my url it went to a petition website against SOPA.
I’m terribly afraid that websites like Blogger, Ultimate Guitar, and Tumblr will be gone in an instant. :c

  4. I’m so happy to see some of my favorite fashion bloggers posting about this! I would have written something myself, but I’ve been too busy complaining on my online discussion boards for my MLIS classes!

  5. Thanks for mentioning SOPA! You’re one of the few fashion bloggers that mentioned it today, I wonder what effect SOPA/PIPA could have on fashion blogging – I know Etsy specifically has been mentioned as a site that would likely have to shut down if SOPA/PIPA is enacted.

  6. I had no idea this was going on, thank you fro sharing Erin, I wish I could email from that site but it is only open to US residents, I think that is this goes in the US, Canada will be next, this would be so sad and I would probably loose my Etsy business if they do shut it down. This is so scary :(
