it’s always a special treat when i get to ring in the new year with my family. all my life, only once a year, my grandmother makes two giant pots of menudo for new year’s day. the whole family comes over to fill our bowls with soup and top it off with green onions, cilantro, tomatoes, oregano, and crushed chili peppers, and soak up the broth with warm tortillas. when i was a kid, i’d roll up the tortillas and use them as makeshift straws to drink the broth. then we’d all sit around the tv eating pan mexicano watching the rose bowl parade. i’m not a kid anymore, but i’m so thankful that i can still enjoy this simple tradition with my family.
here’s to a splendid new year!

I was all like, God that soup looks delicious, ‘menudo’, what is this magical sounding stuff and then I googled it and OMG beef stomach? Where does one even acquire one? Can you make it with regular beef? Also, I was going to ask you if you intended at all to post about organising all your garments, shoes, accessories, etc. Personally my biggest bug bear with loving fashion is having tons to wear but you can’t see it all to really assemble it in the best way. What do you do about this?
Lovely photos. The bowl of menudo looks absolutely deicious!

Yum! I love Pan Dulce! My family always makes Caldo for the Holidays too!
This looks so delicious. Love family traditions, you’re never too old for them!
What a lovely tradition! I feel the same way about my family and christmas. It’s comforting to know that wherever everyone ends up, there’s one day of the year (or every couple years) that brings us all back together, just like when I was young. X
Yum, everything you’ve mentioned sounds delicious. Now I want to eat pan mexicano.
